Okay, well, I was just browsing around some cyberpunk sites and came across some stunguns when I thought "Well, hey, what does UER do when they need to use non-lethal force?". These little beauties make me want to go out and poke my siblings with one right now.

600,000 freakin' volts. Yum.

Well, post away, folks. You know you want to.

>_< Mochi, I've got a Super Soaker full of pepper spray and I know how to use it.

Yeah, they've even got ones that look like cell phones and other random devices. They'll illegal in Canada though.. (not that I have any cause to buy one, but nevertheless), I think they're a quite a lot more "effective" than your bare hands or a knife if you ever got attacked.

So there I was, in this creepy old hallway...

For protection your best bet is using an ASP, its used by law enforcement all over the world. If you know how to use it it can be quite a lethal tool.

I almost always have a 4oz can of CHUD-repellant, er, pepper foam. It's like pepper spray, only it's thicker and nastier... it pretty much stays where you spray it. Unfortunately it's not legal for civilian use in Canada... but I'm in the U.S.

My problem with stun guns is that you have to be within touching distance to use them, and if you can touch the CHUD (or homeless guy, or stoned punk) he, she or it can touch you. I'd rather be able to spray someone down with OC from fifteen feet than get close enough that they can stick a knife in me. That and I can see my dropping it in a drain I'm in when it's turned on and I'm standing in water... bzzzzzouchzzzzzz....

Of course, with my luck I'm going to run into a CHUD wearing a gas mask and full-body coverall. (Hey, I'm sure even CHUDs are paranoid about terrorism...) That's what the tripod, maglite, or carabiner-on-a-cord are for.

LOL@Caribeener on a cord.

Does anyone know if they (for cilivian sale) have those tasers with the launching prongs on them? You're supposed to be able to shoot your target with it from up to 15 feet away... Hrm...

A good old metal SLR at the end of a 4 feet tripod, can give a heck of a swing if you are in deep trouble with some sqatters or drunk man. I'll rater loose my camera in a fight than have someone stealing it.

4 D cells mag light can be a good defense blunt weapon. Guess why almost all police officers come to your car with one in ther left hand and not our smaller 2AA one...

You can buy a (cheaply made) taser at most gun shops and self-defense stores for $75-100, at least around here. They're considered firearms in some places. You *can* get the real police-issue deal - they're on eBay occasionally for upwards of $200 USD, which is pretty much what they go for retail. A lot of "cop shops" won't sell them to civilians, but that's usually just company policy, not law. A lot of cities ban tasers, even though they haven't been around that long.

an ASP isn't illegal in Canada, as long as you strap it to your ass in the proper sheath.

It's considered a weapon of opportunity, just like OC spray. It's not illegal to carry, just illegal to use, unless you can prove beyond a doubt that you didn't have any other alternative.

Screw pepper spray, just smash the offender in the face with your flashlight. It's probably some crazed junkie anyway so they won't press charges. Just get out of there in a hurry so they don't remember your face.

6 D-Cell Maglight is highly effective (so is a 4-d). Good range, very sturdy and can take a beating! Plus, it serves other uses than wound infliction. Good cover for potential entanglements with the law.

Pentax K-1000 (metal body SLR). This thing is a hoss, it will take anything you throw at it (including 4 story drops on to concrete). I have severely abused mine and it works great still!! (by severe I mean using it as a hammer, dropping 4 storys, throwing it in mud and water, and all other dings and dents associated w/ UE). Again, not a weapon but a tool when confronted by police.

Personally, I dont believe in this non-lethal stuff. I feel that if I actually were FORCED into an altercation of some sort, I FULLY intend to leave their lifeless body behind. This is assuming that I were to be attacked without provocation, and the other person involved intended to inflict great personal damage.

Hmmm. Well stun guns and tazers are illegal here. I know of one state (Western Australia) where it is legal to *buy* pepper spray, but I don't know what happens if you use it, if it's legal in any other states (it isn't in Victoria), and bringing it into a state where it's illegal would probably be a big no no.

The thing I like about pepper spray type deals is that it continues to sting/blind/incapacitate your assailant for a few minutes after you spray it, during which time you're running the hell away. If you hit someone with a maglite, you may KO them, or you may just piss them off real bad. Relying on a blunt weapon if confronted by more than one person would also be a bad idea. I fully expect someone to pipe up with something like "You can take out a whole army of pistol-weilding thugs in ten seconds flat armed only with an SLR if you know the ELITE marital arts technique. I can do it in five because I'm THAT much better than you!@&#!", but I don't plan on learning 101 ways to kill a man with a stapler just because I'm into UE.
I have no idea what a stun gun does to a person, or how long the effects last.

It might be a good idea to have a non-lethal weapon along for reassurance if its legal to carry the weapon of your choice where you live, but I don't think anyone in their right mind would do an infiltration if they thought there was a reasonable probability that they'd have to use said weapon somewhere along the line.

I personally have no urge to kill people because "I'm a real man and no one messes with me" or something similar, but that's just me.

These are normal stun guns which work at about 1 miliamps. If you ask me they dont work. It will take at least 4 seconds to take down an attacker. Thats too long. Air taser is a better alternative (i dont mean the civilian version) How about this one? A real life
gauss gun. Its lethal i guess but it looks cool And makes no sounds. Actually its not that strong. I have
seen better gauss guns which shoot arrows at over 300 fps
but this one has a cool design.

Those air taser things would be neat to have because it shoots those prongs into them and then you can zap the attacker whenever you want. Hell you could walk him like a dog all around the building, zapping along your merry way.

I know that you wouldn't want to carry one of these around, but to protect myself from having another wacko come out of his car and go nuts on me I bought a $4.00 golf club from value village. It has actually worked and is kinda fun to see the faces of other motorists when I pop my head out the window and swing the club around.
