Accessing this site?

I went up to this place earlier and was able to find Laurel Branch Road. Took it all the way to the end where there was a ratty old gate and a house on the right hand side that's occupied along with a trail off to the left of the gate. Is this where you're supposed to get into the place? Do the people that live right next to it care about people trekkiing thru there since they can basically see you walking up to it. Where's a good place to park?

I was able to see one of the dishes thru the trees but that was about it. I couldn't have driven down there, obviously. Is the little trailer right inside the gate part of it? I'd really like to check this place out but am a little apprehensive since it's so close to someone's house. Any suggestions?

On previous trips, the gate has either been wide open, or unlocked. Due to the lack of no trespassing signs, I've assumed its part of the park are along with that hiking trail. I've driven right in and parked in the center of the complex. The only thing to watch out for is the broken glass bottles.

Sometimes its easier to be obvious and innocent than sneaky. But if you're index of paranoia is too high, I'd consider finding another part of that trail and parking there. The people in the house don't seem to care, they've seen me enter before.

To clarify what Virual said, but using English, you can park right at the gate. The residents of the house at the entrance don't mind. There were rusty chains keeping the gate closed, thus preventing us from driving in. However, a section of the chain link in the gate was removed, so you could walk right in.

This is just one of those places where nobody cares who goes in and out.

just to verify this with recent information... yea there is a section of the chain link gate that is rolled back and you can literally just walk right in... we didnt have any problems with people tonight we were them from about midnight to 3am... just try and be quite if you go to be considerate of those who live around there

also we did hear dogs barking in the background but they belong to people that live around the area and arent guard dogs

Just went by to take a look. The neighbors were hanging out in the front yard, so I decided it would be best to come back another day. But it is comforting to read (after the fact) that they don't really care.

Even though other people seem to have had no run-ins with the cops or the neighbours, I really wouldn't advise a carefree attitude when it comes to the site. I visited this place during the daytime about a month ago, and though my friend and I had a good 3 or 4 hours to check the satellites out undisturbed, we were greeted with two squad cars as we were leaving.

We parked some distance away from the gate, not really willing to take the chance of being so obvious. As far as we could tell, we didn't see anyone that spotted us as we were walking to and through the gate.

There were 3 cops that approached us as we were leaving, but the conversation was really brief and non-combative. They asked us what we were doing, and we said that a friend of ours told us that there were a couple of really neat satellites that we should take a look at. One of the cops said, exactly, "Well, this place sort of is private property, but, well, there's no more curiosity, right? You guys won't be coming back?" To which we agreed, of course, and then they just let us go.

My best guess is that someone saw us while were on top of the smallest satellite (the first thing we checked out, and the one which is most visible to the surrounding residential area). It's really difficult to see anyone beyond that, and that would explain the long response time and thus the laid-back attitude of the cops.

Obviously this place isn't Fort Knox, but someone around the area doesn't want people going in and out. Just be careful and leave your "ZOMG, I'M TRESPASSING" banner at home.

After speaking with the people who live right next door and the local cops:
The main concern is people using the big dish as a rappel tower.
The last 2 times I visited the site, there were a couple kids stoned out of their minds crawling all over the big dish like monkeys.
If anyone really cared they would fix the fence and chain/bolt the access ways and or cut the rungs.

UPDATE:

I was visiting this place yesterday and the residents DO care. There have been a lot of kids back there vandalizing (not that you can really tell anymore) and the owner has a few of the residents keeping watch. I wouldn't recommend parking anywhere obvious, even on the trail. 15 minutes into taking some pictures I was discovered, the only upside was that the man who caught us was friendly enough and realized we weren't there to break anything or get hurt.

Its rather unfortunate because access is so easy, but they really don't want people back there, so rather than signs they have people who take names.

In summary, be careful, try not to be obvious, and if you do get caught be sure you don't look like a punk rocker, goth, rapper or any other stereotype which could make you look like a troublemaker.

Sorry if its harsh, but I think this site is awesome and I can't blame the residents for being a little suspicious.
