How about you bust out your calculator? ;)

But seriously, after the vote is complete I will post the final numbers with more details and maybe even demographics.

Awesome idea on the voting AV.! Thanks for getting all of our inputs and trying to do what the members feel is best as a whole as opposed to just doing what would be best for you! When can we expect to actually start seeing changes or are we still a long ways from that?

The only issue I see is that because of the spit of votes, it won't represent as fairly as it might seem on the surface.

Example: Question 1.

1st answer says to keep it as is.
2nd answer says make a change
3rd says get rid of it, which is still a change...

so answers 2 and 3 both advocate change, though one obviously drastic.

looking at it this moment, there are 190 people happy with it, 171 that want it changed, and 24 that want it gone. so 190 happy, 195 not happy.

just something to consider...

Ah, but now you are getting into the same kind of "creative" vote counting that you accused me of in the past.

Simply because someone voted "I'd like to see some changes" does not mean you can immediatly count their vote on the same side as "I'd like to have it removed."

This is not a YES/NO vote, you can't tabulate the results to make it one.

The only one I had any real passion about was a desire for the DB to sort provinces by region...I have no earthly idea whether the three dozen cities named "Thomsonton" or something like that are near Toronto...Ottawa...Algonquin...Windsor, etc

Other than that I had a few abstains, and some non-commital votes

You are playing with math to make the poll say what you want it to say; that is, that the 171 who voted for change are not "happy". Not necessarily so! I believe of those 171 people, some may be mostly happy, and some may be mostly unhappy, and alot might be somewhere in the middle. But all of 1 and 2 are in favour of keeping the LDB, whether it be in its current form or after some changes are made. That's what the numbers say.

I'm not playing with the math. YOU insisted previously that an abstain/didn't care could be put into a yes when you wanted. I'm saying here, very rationally and very respectfully that giving 2 seperate options for people to advocate change (whether it's minor tweaks, or wiping it out completely) are none the less, still both calls for change.

It would have been more acurate to have given one answer that said you'd like change in some form instead of seperating them.

I don't know why this is so difficult to grasp. It's no different than this. Say you had a painting hanging on the north wall, and you put up a poll

should it be kept on the north ? or moved south ? east ? or west ?

say 25 people said stay north, and 20 people said each of the other directions. technically, 25 would win, based on how you asked the question, but 60 people said it should change somehow, but their vote for change is skewed by the slant of the question.

Old polling scam, offer varied choices which will split the vote against something, apart...

Whatever... all i've done is try to help, feel free to ban me for not agreeing.

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

Your analogy is flawed.

Each of the choices is not equal and does not have an equal reaction.

I suggest you stop trying to make something of the poll results that it is not. If you were not happy with the poll questions & answers, you should have aired your concerns in the Elections public board, where I posted the poll several days ago for review.

So, we're now looking at a gap of about 30 votes:

4. How would you like to see the command structure of UER organized?
(a) I'd like to vote to elect from a group of my peers (144 votes: 114 full / 30 basic)
(b) I'd like the current moderators to be in command, democratically voting on decisions. (209 votes: 144 full / 65 basic)
(c) I'd like to see one person take over the role formerly held by Avatar-X (46 votes: 31 full / 15 basic)
(d) I really don't care, any solution is fine / Abstain (215 votes: 123 full / 92 basic)

114 full members say they want to vote.
144 say they want the mods to take over.

Unless of course you're counting every member, not just L3's. Of course I guess it depends on which one makes the choice you want more appealing.

Well, let's take a look at the results as of right now.

4. How would you like to see the command structure of UER organized?
(a) I'd like to vote to elect from a group of my peers (145 votes: 114 full / 31 basic)
(b) I'd like the current moderators to be in command, democratically voting on decisions. (211 votes: 144 full / 67 basic)
(c) I'd like to see one person take over the role formerly held by Avatar-X (46 votes: 31 full / 15 basic)
(d) I really don't care, any solution is fine / Abstain (219 votes: 126 full / 93 basic)

Let's do some calculations on the TOTAL vote, because basic members are people too.

Throw out (d) because it's the Abstain option, so those votes are not counted towards any specific option.

145 want an election, 211 want the mods in power, and 46 want a "dictator".

Clearly, "mods in power" is the winner here. Even if you total 145 + 46, that's 191... "mods in power" wins to "mods not in power" by 52.5%, an easy majority.

Now, if you look at only the full member votes:

114 want an election, 144 want the mods in power, and 31 want a dictator.

Again, "mods in power" is the winner. This time, however, the "mods in power" vs "not mods in power" is 144 to 145 -- a single vote away. And the poll isn't over yet.

Regardless of how you stack the numbers, it seems clear to me where this poll is going.

Wow, I'm glad we wasted so much time talking about / planning a government! That was an awesome use of resource.

As for the option 'abstain / I don't know' - well, I wouldn't have allowed that. If you are here and you are seeing a message asking you to VOTE for something? Then vote one way or another, retard. Save 'I don't know / I'm too stupid' for your countries Prime Ministerial / Presidential elections.

Furthermore, I think that with no clear idea of how a 'government' would work here (in that a loose framework was not even announced) skews the votes considerably, it's like this:

1. Vote for the old way.
2. Vote for a new and obtuse way, that no one has finalised, discussed or knows how it might even work or not work.
3. I dunno, my house is made of bricks.

Now, where would YOUR vote lie? You might like the old way and vote 1 - or you might not know and vote 3: who in their right mind would vote 2!??

Because that's exactly what has happened here.

Just my .02pence worth.

Well actually, none of the 3 options are "the old way" -- the one that comes closest is the option to replace me with another... and that option got the least votes.

Uhmmmm... I'm sure you told us on a few occasions Av that in the olden days you would run the site with help / advice from the mods...

Very much like the option 'have the mods vote on issues' - hence my reference to 'the old way'.

Was this not true?

Sure, that's true, but this option is different in that the mods would collectively have a much greater role in the site.

But in any case, I think that the number of "I don't care" votes combined with what you are saying shows to me what I already knew:

*MOST* people on UER are here because they share a common interest in exploring, and don't much care for the irritating politics and arguing. It turns them off, which is why they leave.

While this may or may not be true, I'm not sure how any of the proposed adequately deals with that?

Certainly Av, you don't have to worry about it any longer - having stood down.

I just wish the new Mods good luck is all, I'm pretty sure that the measure of giving them more responsibility and standing them up as more 'in charge' while not a bad thing, probably isn't enough to deal with the problems that currently face UER.

Will all the long standing, decent and above all GOOD explorers flock back overnight given these changes? No.

Might they be tempted to slowly come back over time and contribute once more?

Let's see.
