I can't remember the name of the company that built that plant but the originally made huge printing presses there. There's been a couple of companies in there but the last was Trencor. Good luck and let me know if it's available for an exploration. I grew up in Grapevine so it'd be cool to see what that place is like on the inside.

I know there used to be several fish hatcheries around the Sand Bass point area but from my roamings as a kid, I know that they are all gone. No remains at all. Have you ever found the Sam Bass cave? I found it many years ago but, for the life of me, I can't remember how I got there. I do remember crossing an airstrip or something but that was many years ago and my memories of it are kind of fuzzy.

North side a ways uphill from the water.
Not much of a cave though.

i found 1 fish hatchery on the topo mas circa 1981 near grapevine, but the only airstrips in the area were across the lake in flower mound and they were just grass.

There's Sand Bass Point on the southwest side of the lake and then there is the Sam Bass cave on the north side. If I remember correctly, we did get to it from the Flower Mound area but it was before all the homes were built up on the north side of the lake. It's not much of a cave really, just a small shallow room is all but legend is that both Sam Bass and then later Bonnie and Clyde hid out there. It was much deeper then and, of course, when Sam Bass hid out there there would have been no lake at that time. Story also goes that someone wanted to build a house on top of the bluff over the cave and the Corps of Engineers dynamited or otherwise filled in the cave to prevent collapse when the house was built. The Airstrip that I was talking about was a grass strip but I remember it being there and us parking off to one end then walking up the shore line to get to the cave.

Most of the building is vacant but there is still a couple of companies working out of the warehouse, if you drive around to the back you'll se cars and people there. The offices were being gutted and cleaned out a few weeks back so it looks like either there cleaning it up for remarket or someone is getting ready to move in.

is this it? please tell me it is! i walked all day to get to it and almost sunk to my waist in mud. this was like an overhang you could lie down in, but it looked like it would have gone down in the back pretty deep but it was filled in w/ sand. no houses near by, but lots of kids had carved crap in the rocks all along that part of shore.

Nope, sorry.
It's (was) pretty high up and steep. Two rooms with lots of Daddy Longlegs.

I remember 2 caves side by side or at least very close to each other. The smaller opening actually opened up into the bigger room with space for about 4 people to sit upright (or enough room where two people could stetch out (wink)). The bigger opening was just that, a rather large opening that a person could actually get into and out of the elements so to speak. In the rock face above one of the the name Sam Bass was carved.
