| | | Posted by meggaman Im, wondering if this corridor in downtown victoria leads to the tunnels , lots of odd shaped doors ,with big keyholes at the end of it ,and it was starting to get dark out ,,
| Fan Tan Alley? Not likely. Keep looking.

| | | this corridor has some doors and windows on the right,I looked into one of the windows and saw that the place has a wood plank floor ,this must mean there is a basement down below ,i wonder if the tunnels are under there,,this place is close to the shore too,,

| | | this building has no rear on it ,,just the front is being saved by steel beams i looked around the area and just saw huge piles of dirt ,doesn't look like any tunnels were there ,at the back of this place is a concrete slab left in tact i was looking for a trap door or anything that seemed like a entrance ,then i herd some noise ,,

I was on the other side of this borded up window ,It sounded like footsteps,
| Probably security. That facade is sketchy. The support beams are there to support the structure, lest it collapse and crush you to death. It would be a bad thing if that happened, if only because the owners would get sued. And the future development would be haunted by your ghost, and that would effect unit sales, and property taxes, and tourism, and so on and so on. You should have checked out the building before it burned down. Or you can take a look at the pics I posted. The thread is titled "Pandora Street Squat."

| | | Posted by surekill So anyway, I went yesterday evening to investigate The Thing on the Doorstep's alleged tunnel entrance. We took some pictures and I'll include two of them here. The entrance/doorway is about 8 feet high and has an arched top made out of brick. We think it is far too large an entrance to be any sort of "coal chute". The concrete seems like it was done within the last 50 years and is very solid. The Thing on the Doorstep also had some photo's in a book from as far back as roughly 1900 showing his building with the street at its current height. We decided that we should drill some test holes in the concrete to see if it is in fact hollow on the other side. It may be a few days before we do this initial test. More to come!
| These things are all over Old Town. You'll find them in Market Square. You'll find them up near The Patch. You'll find them in damned near every building built circa 1860 in the downtown area. They are part of the building basement, and extend (or extended as most have been back-filled and sealed) under the sidewalks around the city. Some are still open. Some connect to other extensions. It is rumoured that some are intact and connect via a long, narrow passage (e.g. Warf St. up Pandora). If you go into that gardening shop...can't recall the name...near Market Square, and descend to the basement level, you will discover one or two sealed arches. Post by sabotagehaha. done what? called kubla a doorknob? indeed I did (or the photo did?). I'm sure our mr. meggaman here was only poking fun about fan tan alley. Besides, my comment was just a friendly elbow in the ribs... no serious offense taken I hope.
| None taken at all. Though I'd probably feel better about it if you actually posted something that contributed to the thread rather than start by taking the piss out of me.
