It's already fully automated. When you make a donation via PayPal, you gain immediate Premium Membership for one month. If you don't like it, you don't have to use any of the features.

If you *REALLY* don't want the trophy icon, I can remove it for you.

They were just suggestions Av that did not need to be addressed with your sarcasm towards me. I felt it. (winks)

Is there going to be a option open to those that might want to mail you one payment to cover for example 6 or 12 months in advance?

What would you be doing with a donation if I sent one? I can't figure it out. I mean all the individual people post pictures. So......where would all this money go and for what purpose. Used to be my favorite site. I still like it, but I don't think you should charge for it. I mean it's perfectly fine to ask for a donation, but it shouldn't be forced on you and it feels like it is. Donate or else you can't see everything. Ohhhhhh kay.

There is nothing you can't see having not donated. The only bonuses of having donated are things like different interfaces, special "extra things" that have nothing to do with the base things like the LDB, an no one forces anyone to donate anything.

Your problem is that you have not been given "Level 3" access, which is part of the trust system, and a completely unrelated topic to donating. http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=19032

Nothing is forced on you.

And you can see everything once you're a Level 3 member.

I'll let AV tell you what he does with the donations, but its a donation, do you really have to ask? I'd guess that he's using the donations tp pay for upgrades, and keeping this site up.

Premium membership doesn't allow you to see more information, it just gives you more options on the website. I think you meant to complain about Full Membership: http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=19032

I think the donation thing is a great idea. If I wasn't a starving student, and poor, I would be donating every month. But its great that people are donating, so people like me, who want access to the site, but cannot afford the donations for whatever reason(s), can still see the site, and have full access. But if I ever get an extra $5, I sure will donate

I think it's fine what he's doing.

AV is just offering a gift to those who send him a donation.

Just because you can't afford it shouldn't matter. It's a gift.... it's his way of saying thanks. Maybe it shouldn't be called a Premium Membership ... maybe some other name, like Donator Membership... I dunno that's kind of dumb but I'm sure someone can come up with something creative.

It would probably ease the pressure. It's all in how you perceive things.

Contributing member or Supporting Member would perhaps be better titles.

Since you are in Canada, you might prefer an Interac® Email Money Transfer.

That way, without any hassle, from your normal bank account, you can send money to anyone else with a Canadian bank account without needing any account numbers or other hassles, all you need is an email address. It uses the same Interac system as your purchases at retail stores, so it is safe, and the fee is only 1.50$ per transfer.

The following link will show you step-by-step how to perform an Interac Email Money Transfer for all major Canadian banks.

You know, I find it ironic in the extreme that, although I live in Canada, I find out about this service from someone living in Germany! Goes to show you how well advertised it is over here.... <sigh>

i could see paying 5 bucks a year to subscribe to this site. but letting people check the site out free of charge for a month with limited features until they subscribe... i.e. allow them to view posts, but they cant post... and allow them to view public locations.

this way alot of those people who pretend to be explorers and come on here tricking us when infact they are the property owners in disquise will not really be able to do much unless they pay (which they arent likely going to do)

Lets say a management company in New York city owns 250 properties along the east coast. They purchase large abandoned and distressed properties, refurbish them, and then lease them for hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. (I can show you guys where you can buy your own abandoned warehouse for about $790,000 USD) Also, they have an internet department that maintains their website. Why wouldn't they pay $5 or even $50 a month to let their web goons access secured information on UER (an international database/web community which helps people trespass), when they aready spend thousands on security. I know a lot of large properties around here are owned by big construction companies from other parts of the country.
I don't think trusted access should be for sale.
And if this forum went into a "read-only" status unless you subscribed, a lot of casual explorers would go somewhere else, or start their own smaller scale local websites. Anyone can install and setup a free (open source) database (or even photopost) with a forum, and a lot of hosting sites will transload one for you.

I don't think any of that has to to with the original point of this topic though.

If before you donated and thought, "Cool, I just helped UER!"
Now you can say, "Cool, I just helped UER! And now I get stuff! I didn't feel obligated to donate though, because they're just little widgets that entertain me for five minutes, and I didn't donate because I wanted them, but its a nice 'thanks', ya know?"

I also agree that donations should be broken down into increments. Even if it's $5 or $10 or $7 or whatever a month. In the event that a person donates $15 (for the features, just to help, both reasons, someone held a gun to their head and made them do it.. whatever reason), I think it'd be nice to have that broken in to three pieces for $5/month benefits. I think that's the way AudioScrobbler used to do it.
I'd throw down $60 now if I had benefits for a year, but I don't want to have to devote time and effort and online time every single month, logging into paypal, so I can donate nickles.

I am not sure how you mean this but I bet that are many days that AV does not want to spend time updating and fixing not to mention responding to some of the stupid ass emails he gets. What is a couple if minutes a month to help support the site that we all enjoy so much? I don't think AV is getting rich here and if I am wrong, AV enjoy.

Donating is a choice not a requirement and so is Av's choice to spend his time doing this so I know.... "What ever What ever".
