You know, I've tried to put this place out of my mind, except as a curiosity; but now you had to go and post it and send me on YET ANOTHER wild goosechase hiking up some frigging mountain! In search of infrastructure that will probably not be there, and trespassing in order to do it!
Bastard.

Just playing around ; the place has much more to offer than just "some silos", and hopefully there is something Extant.
Reminds me of the well traveled trail up Prospect mountain in LG; follow this trail and you will see the stone foundations of one of the worlds longest "furnicular" railcars. I hike the whole thing, find many stone remnants, but my dream to find a furnicular railcar hidden in the weeds died when the prospect house burned years ago. Nothing left except memories.
But you can always dream, and it never hurts to try.

lol

I couldn't find bupkiss on this. It has always been these weird silos on the side of the road. No one knew what they were other than the 'spar mines'. WTF was a spar mine? So, the other day, I was on my way back from doing some barbecue shopping at Wal-mart and happened to have the digicam with me and figured a few pics wouldn't hurt.

And yes, this is like human frogger! I was almost flattened by a camper moving at warp velocities as it rounded the corner heading for Ti. I wanted to get up on the hill, but I had left the car running and wasn't really dressed to brave the poison ivy, or what I thought was poison ivy. As for the property, I thought International Paper owned all that, the lot going with the wastewater treatment plant just down the road.

Anyways, thanks again for the info... I'm learning more and more about where I live... weird.
When are you going to pay a visit to the iron center museum in Port Henry? It's worth the visit.

Far as I can tell, the pit on the Vineyard road is a test bore for the Iron mining they wanted to do "some years ago" The Spar mine is/was between the Vineyard road and rt 9n/22, before Sam Curran Road going north..
