I like concrete. It’s either already collapsed or perfectly safe

If you hear a loud alarm go off while exploring, does that mean cops are on theyre way, or is it just to scare people off?

It means the owner cares and it's not abandoned... to a greater or lesser extent.
Be glad it wasn't a silent alarm.
May or may not have an off site link up although they are pretty common nowadays.

One way or another, an alarm means they're likely to show up. Even if there's no security system beyond the noise, anyone could call them if they hear an alarm. Loud beeping means leave, unless you're really confident in your ability to disappear.

I'd say either way, if you set off (or even suspect you did) an alarm, it's probably best to book it out of there and come back another day.

Best bet if you set an alarm off is to leave, retire to a safe distance and watch and observe to see how long it takes for someone to show up to reset it. Then instead of going straight back in like an imbecile go back in a few days.

Me and my friend set an alarm off in an abandoned distribution centre a couple of years back and ran around grabbing some shots before the security man turned up and reset it whilst we were inside, so it immediately got set off again and we bailed, got out unseen and saw a very confused security guard wandering up and down the road as the alarm blared away.

Extra comedy moments can be achieved if they are the kind of alarms that shout at you in a robotic voice.

I've run into alarms on doors in active buildings that turn off after a minute or two, but I've also run into alarms that set off sirens through the entire building. It just takes experience with them to judge the situation, so for now just leave if you see or hear one.

It all depends on the location and how loud the alarm is. Say you’re in an isolated area with a motion alarm which has no purpose other than scare people off, cops are likely not to show up.(Of course the alarm obviously wouldn’t specify that it’s only there to scare people off) However, if you’re in a more populated area, and even worse, you notice the alarm mentions “security”, “911”, or “police”, you better be sure you could get yourself out of there fast.

In Omaha there was this building that was easily accessible.

I go into the main part of the building and all of sudden a siren starts blaring. Acting on basic instincts I leave, but didn't leave the area.

After about 30 minutes, the siren shuts off and no police or security response to the building. So I went back in, found the annoying noise maker and cut the wire.

In order to use your head, you have to go out of your mind.
