Even In His Youth

Happy New year everyone, let's see if I can get one last set in for 2019. This one is another abandoned school out in Alabama just full of left over stuff and a ton of spots equipment left behind to rot. It seemed like the whole school was focused around the spots department, they must have seriously loved the games. A special shout out to Sheavy for meeting up with me for that afternoon, man I had a great time and there was still so much there to see even after the fire, I loved it so thanks. We even discovered that there had been an indoor rifle range in the basement at one point for the JROTC guys. Imagine that, learning to shoot in highschool, lol. If I remember correctly it seems a lot of the better schools offered this way back in the old days. It was still just pretty cool discovering a bit of forgotten history like this. Anyway, on to the pics...

1. just a shadow now of my former self

2. Upper Class

3. A Bit Rusty On my Game

4. and Lower Class

5. Loser of the Popularity Contest

6. Left To Blow In the Wind Like a...

7. Even In His Youth He Was No One

8. All Your Glory Days Remembered

9. Hope For The Flowers

10. Ever Felt Turned on Your Head and Left For Dead ?

11. Only Shooting Paper Targets

12. They'll Never Grow Old Now

13. Recess in the Dark

Thanks All

Killer shots! I like 3 and the perspective on 5 is nice. Cool capture of the range also.

A shooting range in school is a helluva weird concept in today's day and age.

Very cool! It seems like Atlanta has a lot of really cool sites to check out. I wish I wasn't so far away! If I am ever in the area at least I'll have a ton of interesting things to do. Love the truck picture - not sure why but very nice.

wow - so many memories - good and bad - were brought up by those pictures.

For me, the film reel was the one that resonated the most.

Maybe it was the good memories of those old 1950's health and family films they would show (which are now on YouTube and are HILARIOUS, maybe it was the memories of the last day of school showings of "The Million Dollar Duck" (every. single. year.)

*sigh*……

I don't know, but it definitely brought up those memories and also memories of a very sad little girl who chose to sit on the hill during recess rather than try to play with the kids who would kick and push her on the ground. Taunts of "Four eyes", "Geek", "Amazon", "Nerd", even "Yankee" (I had moved with my family to the deep South from Chicago) and I just wanted to disappear.

Disappear into myself I did. For a long time. Until college really. So thank you Ma Tech for that. I found where I had been hiding for so long and that was good. I found myself and felt like I was worth something again. At least for a little while.

Yeah - all of "THIS" emotional crap came out of seeing that old film reel on the floor.

Weird.

I'm gonna be in a weird place today...…….that sucks bc I have a hurricane hitting my workplace and I have to pull some Herculean duties. I'll blame my zombie face on you Once-ler Happy Friday y'all

It's actually not that unusual, if the school has a ROTC/JROTC program. I was a military science instructor at Penn State, and there is one on main campus in the Wagner Building that is still being used.

There is also one I've been to at MIT in Boston, MA.

Love the way you captured the essence of the school in the images.

Well thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed that. I'll see what else put up soon.

Yeah, I've seen a bunch of schools and this is probably only the second that had any evidence that this was even done at one time. Kind of neat to think you could learn to shoot with proper instruction with a class of your friends back then.

LOL, thank you 1foot. We never know what is going to stir the senses and bring back some long forgotten memory. Sounds like this one was bittersweet for you too. I definitely felt that way walking through the school and finding still so many left behind traces of people.

Thanks DB, it was definitely good to get back out again. Need to see you posting some more pics again man!

Yes, I loved the rusty old truck too. I spent a minute trying to figure out how to include the wall mural in the auditorium shot and still get the angles right, glad it worked.

Heeeeeeeeyyy, nice shots man, that was a fun day. I've got a soft spot for how you composed 7 and 5.

I wish I had the time/money to get out that way to see some stuff, really out of state anywhere.
