| | | | Couple Questions For a Newbie < on 8/22/2017 5:49 AM > | Reply with Quote
| | | I've just started posting here, and I know it'll be a while before I'm a full member, which is absolutely fine. It's what is necessary to maintain a great, safe community for all of us. Anyways, there are a couple things I've been wondering that I didn't notice in the FAQ Firstly, I've noticed that in a lot of "official" urbex videos I've seen, the name and/or location of sites are never revealed. Is this a universally understood policy to avoid sites getting bogged with tourists, scrappers, taggers, and the like, or just some nice coincidences? Secondly, 've done a bit of exploring myself already, and have a good stock of photos. Until I become worthy of wearing the title of a full fledged member, I can't post a good amount of the pictures I have to their appropriate site pages (if they exist yet), so should I make a forum post for doing so, or just wait until later to post them? (I have others I can and will be posting once I have a proper amount of sleep in me) Thirdly, what is the policy on lockpicking and the like for gaining access? I'm certainly not saying I have the tools or know-how to do so, but if I somehow did have the ability, would it be something frowned upon by the community, or just another way to gain access? (also dang c++ code in a text box, I wonder how much I can do here~)
[EDIT] Forgot one last thing: what do people usually do for video sharing of locations here, or are photos the bigger interest for the community? time to sleep.

| Scrappers and taggers ruin sites, so the majority of explorers, or at least the ones involved with exploring communities in some way, will make up a name for the locations shown. This is considered good practice. Posted by CanidCamera Secondly, 've done a bit of exploring myself already, and have a good stock of photos. | The regional boards are available to everyone, so I don't think there's any reason to wait. In fact, posting pictures of your explores is a good step towards gaining full membership. You don't even have to post in the regional boards - you could always just make a thread in the Photography section. | You'll get different answers from different people. I personally wouldn't, because being caught picking locks or with lockpicks on your person is a huge amount of added risk. From an ethical standpoint, some would say it's fine as long as you put everything back the way it was on your way out. | There's a subforum where you can post videos, or you can include them with a photography set. You'll always attract more interest with photos, since they're just easier to look at and digest. There's definitely an audience for videos though, and it does no harm to post them. Just try not to show entry details, even if you use a false name.

Cool, I figured as much, gotta keep the sites preserved and safe for explorers~ You don't even have to post in the regional boards - you could always just make a thread in the Photography section. |
True! I'll probably get to doing that in the next couple days then I personally wouldn't, because being caught picking locks or with lockpicks on your person is a huge amount of added risk |
Honestly that would be the major concern, because I'm not interested in using that kinda stuff for any devious purposes anyways. Makes sense~ There's a subforum where you can post videos, or you can include them with a photography set. Yeah I've started to notice people just embedding videos from youtube into their threads, don't know why I didn't consider it Thanks for the info! <3
