Along the same lines: hooking up with forums of builder's, architects, construction workers, etc., is something I'm just now starting to play with, and I'm really excited with the results. I would assume this is only useful in densely populated areas, but there are tons of secondary data that you can pull out of these sites. For instance, I found a map that auto updates itself through google (MyMaps, I think), and shows all current, past, failed, and proposed major developement projects. This is especially interesting to me because what do you think is about to happen to those three farmhouses and textile mill currently sitting inside that shaded area that are for sale or perhaps already bought out? Most places within that zone are going to be flattened and are often already vacant or slowly becoming vacant as the new owners phase them out for demolition and to build their spiffy new stadium or mixed use 500 acre luxury villa or whatever.

There is a wealth of info in forums dedicated to preservation, construction, architecture, and developement. Hell, even the ghost hunting forums have yielded some surprising successes for me in the past!

Edit: typo

I think I found this EXCACT map you are talking about, haha.

Internet is a good tool. Same with Google maps. Scout your locations and head out. Best places I've found have been actual finds and not asking locations. Once you have a few good spots you will usually meet a few more explorers and trade some info. I also like to look up the places I've been like the history and such. Best advice is to just get out and look. I mean it's called exploring. I personally would rather find my own locations. It's more fun. And the thrill of finding things on your own or with some hints is such a rush

Just boof it!!

I've found the best locations (that I'm still casing and scouting out because they're somewhat high risk) driving around and googling, NOT through the database here (unless you're a full member, idk). I did find the database handy for finding an introductory spot that was 100% legal and not risky at all.

As has been said, explore around!
I just got into this site (legitimately only been about a week on here, though my account was created last year), and I'm finally getting into urbex, though I didn't know of any places around me that were interesting, save for one locally famous bridge. I checked this thread out a couple days ago, and decided I'd give riding around a shot today.
Lo and behold, I came across three new places I hadn't known about via UER or any of the searches I had done. All I did was take a quick (1.5 hour, really quick!) bike ride heading towards a site I already knew of and had explored. Along the way, I ran into an abandoned school and a couple of misc abandoned buildings. On the way back home I wanted to check the school out but there was a police officer there, I wonder if it was because I was there earlier...

Bottom line, riding and being on the look out works wonders! I'd recommend a bike, because while cars get you around faster, it's much more of a hassle to stop and look at something, and cars are much larger and not exactly easy to hide. I take my bike in with me if I find a site while out. (At least, I have the one time it happened) There's certainly more interesting places around than you'd think!

Grow old, but never grow up.
