| | | That could work, the guys on top gear tried that out, looked like fun! If your good at climbing, it looks like you may be able to get access through the trees, none the less a cool looking place. | Ah yes, it's a very interesting design. While I don't have the skills to climb the trees, or the money for the jet pack, if all else failed sneaking an aluminum ladder across the parking lot (it's a public boat ramp by the way) may be the best way to go. That, or the guy that suggested a grappling hook may have had a point. None the less i'll see who/what I can round up to get in that place soon.

| | | At first glance, I thought that place was this place here in Texas. I was about to get onto you for not noticing the plaque about 50 feet away next to the mill. Although very similar, these are obviously not the same place, but I'm willing to bet the plaque offers a couple parallels about your structure as well as the one it's dedicated to: Mill by Dee Ashley, on Flickr Here is the plaque:
by Dee Ashley, on Flickr Just as a quick side note, this is probably the most scenic/photogenic (semi) ghost town I have ever seen in the state of Texas (this is also the location I was questioned by a cop and for the first in my life, a cop actually made me cry - right beside this mill). Aside from a moment of State Trooper hostilities, the location was really, really cool with lots of interesting places to explore. I even ran into the owner who provided some historical insight as well as permission to stick around and light paint it without being worried about getting in trouble (no one could foresee the dickhead trooper, even the owner, unfortunately). Lastly, I have to throw this one in.., for obvious reasons (behind the mill): No Nude Shooting Except Female by Dee Ashley, on Flickr Anyways, I found your thread particularly interesting, OP, because of the architectural similarities and I'm curious how much of that is form and how much of that is (more likely) function... I know nothing about these designs except what I read of the plaque, btw! Thanks for sharing

| | | I noticed something that interested me about the Texas structure I just posted about and I'm curious if you remember something similar to this with your thread's location:
by Dee Ashley, on Flickr Notice that the holes are not in every brick, and they vary in size (although the size variations could be from a lack of mass production capabilities at the time the mill was built and not necessarily important):
by Dee Ashley, on Flickr Did you happen to see anything like this? These holes are poked through most, but not all, of the bricks surrounding the entire structure. I'm very curious if there was and if it had something to do with its location along the river... I wondered why most of the stones would have these indentions/punctures in them. I thought these holes could somehow provide protection from the water pressure during floods and such. Maybe it acted as some kind of pressure valve to counteract the incredible force exerted on it from the water as well as the strong currents when the river would swell. Most of the holes appear to pierce the brick entirely. However, I have absolutely no factual evidence to support my theory, I just can't imagine why else the structure would have holes poked through its outer wall. I had forgotten about this anomaly, but now I'm curious again... especially if both mills have them. I apologize for taking up so much of your thread, TC, I'm just really interested in both of these mills.
