So when the cops come? If possible, stay still until they leave!

That doesn't work when they are really looking for -you- and calling for you to come out; it just pissed them off.
Then they bring in the K9s... they're harder to hide from.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I second this. It all depends on the situation. In stealthwraith's situation where they just kinda sat and chilled outside in the patrol cars and didn't actively go and look for her, waiting them out is the best option.

But like you said, when they actively look for you or god forbid they bring the K9s it's best to just comply or you're almost guaranteed to get locked up for at least the night.

Best thing to do is just don't get caught

Extremely true. This situation I gauged and bet and it worked. If it had looked differently I would have changed my approach and been quite compliant with the doggies and their handlers. Somehow I doubt I'd get lucky enough for all of them to have received German commands that they'd accept from me...

Luckily I've only ever talked to security guards before and my friends and I have found that it is best to just be honest with them. If they ask what we're doing we say we are taking pictures but don't get into specifics. If I were to get caught by cops though I think it's best to just be honest about what you are doing because like mentioned before, you don't know who reported you or what they saw you doing so the cop may catch you in a lie. Granted it really depends on the situation but in the case of my friends and I we literally just walk around and take pictures.

Just because you think you're a hard-ass & can run from the police doesn't mean you necessarily should.

Regardless of what you decide to do should that moment arise, the above statement would be a wise thing to bear in mind.
My ego wants to fuck me every chance it gets and those chances are almost always by way of hasty, emotional, poorly thought-out decisions.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but this entire scenario varies greatly depending on what country you live in, in my opinion. I read someone's post that said trespassing isn't even a criminal charge and the ticket isn't enforced beyond collections where they live in Canada. That is very low on my negative consequence spectrum and anyone that risked it and ran from that situation is probably young and foolish, or just an idiot. Some officers in other countries don't even carry guns, so that would play into the equation as well. Culture local laws, and region weighs so heavily in this decision, IMO, that where I live might completely change my answer on this one.

In the United States, evading arrest is usually a felony and our police are armed with guns as well as an impressive array of items at their disposal to detain, disable, or kill you. Are they very likely to employ any of these items when confronting you (assuming you're not acting like a dumbass)? Probably not, but the consequences are grave enough, even potentially lethal enough, that for this reason alone I would (almost) never run from the police. I've been confronted by law enforcement a few times and I've never been searched or arrested. But I'm female, I'm white (sad that this matters, but it just does here in Texas), I didn't have a record, and I was very respectful and compliant of their requests.
The worst that has happened has been a citation (equivalent to a speeding ticket, but even less since you don't have to mess with the nightmare called DPS) that I paid an extra $40.00 for a deferral and it went away after six months of not getting in trouble again in that county. The ticket was pricey, but not as pricey as a felony. Considering I've had to deal with police several times, and almost always gotten a warning, sometimes not even that, I cannot justify the risk. If I was 18 again, I know my thinking would be quite different (I was an idiot until at least 23 years of age) because I did run a couple times successfully.
Today, it's not worth the risk.

Ive been detained, questioned, served, arrested, jailed and rough handled by The Man plenty. That was in another life however. My only encounter with the police while urban exploring an abandoned building went very well, almost comically.

Marshall TX PD cruiser drove right up in my viewfinder, inside a building, we kinda startled each other I think. He hid behind his door and asked to see my hands. The officer approached and told me to put my hands down. Turns out he was more concerned with my safety than my crime, he started telling me about all the hazards and bad-assed, dangerous vagrants that frequented that building, he even offered to give me a ride back to my car! Never once asked for ID never asked if I was carrying, we had a real nice chat and a couple laughs. I guess I looked too vulnerable to be roaming around a big city abandonment all by myself. Truth be known these guys are the vulnerable ones in most encounters like this. They have to assume youre armed, maybe dangerous and probably nuts.

Bottom line: Cop haters won't like this but cops are just people, vast majority of them don't wanna jack you up or run you in unless bound by the state penal code to do so. Show some respect. Put yourself in their shoes. A thankless and dangerous job. I may be getting old but if they ask to see my hands or view my pics I will show them with a smile every time.

Resisting arrest is a felony in most states;
you're close enough to be charge as an adult.

Resisting and evading are two different offenses in Texas, and yes 17 is old enough to go to jail in Texas too ask me how I know!

Here is one of Marshall's finest j.d.a (just driving along) in an abandoned building till he found me. Sounded like its on his regular patrol route he was expecting bums or tweakers not photographers.

Whew! Just a crazy ass urban explorer!

Evading can turn into resisting real easy; a bad frame of mind to practice.
Cops get adrenaline rushes too... they're are the ones writing the charges.
Pissed off cops are no fun to deal with; best to be calm and compliant.
I can verify that from multiple personal encounters.
You don't want to pump their adrenaline or their radio dispatch.

Yeap, that looks like Idaho.
I was there once in 2010...
I was so glad to leave.
Mind you I like desolate places but not what I saw in Idaho and Kansas.
Of course an abandoned military base or missile silo could change my mind.

My first ever experience tunneling ended with the cops waiting for us to exit. We made the dumb decision to run which led to cops waiting at our cars (which weren't exactly parked inconspicuously) The cops admitted they couldn't charge us with anything but instead decided to give our cars a BS parking ticket. TL;DR I ran which attracted the cops attention and I had to throw $55 at the city government for a parking violation.
