Ok - so this is my first posting of pics. Be gentle. I'm a serious newbie. These were taken before the Flu knocked me down and out last week for a solid 7 days. Its nice to not be bent over the porcelain throne anymore.

Story on these pics:
My ex and I were posting yard signs about our daughter's upcoming play and I saw just this random shack as we were shortcutting thru the woods. I grabbed his sleeve and said "We HAVE to go in"! Although he turned his head, cocked it slightly to the side with one eyebrow raised in incredulity - he went in. Since my lovely and always breaking iPhone 6+ front camera has gone the way of the dino, He had to take the pics that I pointed to. I know I have a lot to learn about composition and there wasn't that much here, but baby steps. I'm learning. Please feel free to critique, just be gentle, I am but a delicate snowflake

My favorite is the rusted bucket where only the bottom is missing. I named that one Monday

admittedly not a very interesting shot, but I'm just trying shots out and learning

this shack was in the midst of houses that start at 800K. Its so amazing this shed has not been torn down. Maybe no one knows who it belongs to.

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

The honest to god best advice I have ever received on any of my photos was;

"Get weird with it. They make great photos."

Thank you to those who offered up encouragement and advice. I don't have a camera to call my own right now (even the phone camera is DEAD/has a penchant for making waves like you're looking out into the desert...) but in a month or so maybe I will have some extra $$ to fix the phone or buy a solo camera (I know I'm lying to myself but allow the dream...it keeps me afloat).

When I can - I will put the advice to "get weird with it" into action. Sounds kinda fun

until then....sorry they were admittedly a bit dull but ya gotta start somewhere and since I started low, I can only go up!

Good shots to start with. The perspective and the way the light is in 5 is pretty cool.

I have took $20 to a pawn shop and talked them out of a 14Mp camera that they were asking $80 for. It seems like if they have something for a while they will take something to break even.

Still working on it...

It's a good start.
Much better than being a UER lurker.
The pawn shop idea is a good one

thanks y'all - I know these aren't so hot, but: a) the ex took the shots that I asked him to - however, I doubt I would have been much better ! lol and b) I really can't afford to get camera gear or fix my phone right now. Its a little grim around the old homestead but I'll get there

I enjoy learning from you all so thx for the free education

Really decent cameras are cheap now. Don't need to drop a couple grand to take very good pics. One advantage a stand alone camera has over a camera phone is you instantly look like you're there to take photographs. Im no photographer but I do look like one when I explore.

so I have NO idea what bone headed thing I did to send my reply into cyberspace, but clearly I did it.

I got a Nikon Coolpix L320. Kinda disappointed but keep reminding myself - it was only $60, not $600. I can turn it back in within 6 months and get the price I paid for it towards another camera. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do that and use this one as a set of training wheels to learn what I'm doing. I've already been frustrated with the crap pic quality.

Re. the pics from this weekend - I FINALLY remembered the damn camera today and I don't have the right cord to release the pictures from camera purgatory! :-Z They are still trapped in the camera. I guess someone actually *lied* to me (gasp) at the pawn shop. I asked what type of cord I needed and if it came with one. She said it was a standard Android cord. WRONG. Oh well, Amazon will fix this shortly. I'll get pics up as soon as I can.....the wait continues. I know you *all* are just fixed to the screen awaiting the new batch of semi shitastic photos from the newb LOL (<- sarcasm for those that don't know my effervescent humor).

I went scouting last weekend and found a few places but not a one

Never be fooled into thinking that having a camera that costs hundreds of dollars will turn you into a good photographer, that's just a marketing ploy, it doesn't hurt to look like a serious photograph when out exploring like 2xplorations said though. The photographer takes the pictures, not the camera. I don't know much about the coolpix, I've never used one, but there's some going for upwards of 200 dollars on amazon and ebay, it honestly looks like 60 dollars was a more than fair price if it's in good condition. I wouldn't jump the gun on turning it back in just yet. If you don't know anything about ISO, shutter speed, f/stops, etc. I'd recommend reading up on it. Also getting a tripod wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Funny to just see a shed with really nothing around it. I think that that place must have to be very old. I really think it's crazy how the bucket in one of your pictures just completely rusted through that must have been there for a long long time. Cool shots tho!
