Backpack? Shoulder bag? Sling?

What do you all use to bring photo gear into explores? I've got a nice shoulder bag for photography that holds a few lenses, but it's a pain in the ass when I need to climb/crawl into tight spots. I also swapped out my SLR's neckstrap for a shoulder strap (Luma Loop 3), but it's only marginally better for securing the camera to me for climbs. So far, I've left my tripod at home because I don't have a good way to carry it.

Do you guys have a recommendations on a good backpack? Is a backpack even right, or should I be looking for a fanny pack or vest or something? Any specific urbex considerations like avoiding velcro due to noise concerns?

For bonus points, show me your setup!

I got this Dolica DK 10 backpack on sale for $20. It's really nice for the price; it has a tripod mount on the outside and some places to hook stuff, and it has two separate pockets on the inside- one for the camera and lenses and the other for whatever.

I use a sling pack. I like how easy they are to get on and off. And I can easily swing the pack in front of me without taking it off to access gear. The bag was $30 on Amazon.

I purchased a padded liner that fits perfectly inside to protect camera gear. And I can remove it for non-camera use. The liner was $17 on Amazon.

I can easily fit my camera body with an attached lens, two additional lenses, a tripod, filters, cables, batteries, cellphone, flashlight, food, water, and other stuff without issue. It's versatile and you can't touch a decent quality/size camera bag for under $50.

Here are links:

I use a Lowepro Slingshot bag.
This one

Going off memory as to what is inside it right now:
Camera body
Three lenses
Flash
LED Light Panel
Two Flashlights
Fold up flash diffuser
Remote flash trigger
Batteries

I think that is all that is currently inside.

It has a mount for a tripod outside and a built in rain shield.

I use a small backpack at the moment, and have used the same one for about four years now. Primarily because by a sheer fluke of design, the small shoulder camera bag I have for my camera fits absolutely perfectly into the bottom of the backpack with my two other lenses in their cases on top of that, which makes it incredibly easy to just reach in and grab my camera.

I used to use the same bag. Upgraded to the Slingshot 302 AW last week because I was finding the upper pocket on the constrained side, and because I wanted the proper waist belt which helps reduce the pull the 202 was putting on my shoulder since the anchor strap on it doesn't do much to distribute weight.

Also helps that the waist belt on the 302 has attachment points as well, so I can clip my flashlight cases on there.

I use a Tamrac Velocity 8x sling bag with an added on pouch for my 55-200mm zoom if I feel like I might need it. It can fit my D3200 with the kit lens on it, my 10-24mm wide angle on one side, then my 35mm prime lens, an LED Array, and smaller lens hoods on the other side. The front pouch can hold both my 77mm lens hood, all my filters, 2 extra batteries, remote shutter release, head lamp and if need, my hot shoe flash. I tend to not carry my flash around much, but if I'm going exploring inside, I'll usually leave the zoom in the car and put the flash in the side pouch so it's not so tight. I have another LED flashlight hook on one of the zippers and then I hook my tripod bag to the bag with a carabiner clip.

I love how tight it is to my body for ducking under brush and stuff and it's so easy to get to the camera. I'm resigned to the fact that no matter how large of a bag I get, I'll just find more shit to throw in there. But this is a happy size and has replaced my full backpack bag that was a bit cumbersome to carry, would fall over if i had stuff in the top pouch when I put it down, and wasn't as water resistant. It also tended to make my back hurt after a while, but I carried around a big field manual for my camera and all kinds of other junk when I used it. It was also a bit of a hassle getting to the camera quickly. Still, it's a good bag...and the divider inserts/padding thing can be removed and I'd recommend putting a garbage back around the foam to give you some waterproofing on the sides.

i use one very similar. perfect to slide to front and take out camera. holds camera with lense and two more lenses in side opening. opening on top for space for gloves etc. side holds tripod. definetly great for urbex.
