I'm in Atlanta for a conference this coming week and would be incredibly grateful for any advice or guidance regarding ruined and abandoned sites. Thanks!

Totally not a cop.

No one is going to hand over locations to a brand new member.

Post some pics and build a reputation so people will share locations or just look around and find some spots.

Thanks for the advice! This was really a bit of a last minute shot to see if any Atlanta explorers were willing to offer some prudential advice.

So I mostly explore abandoned retail, but I am up for just about anything. Happy to share some photos and if you can refer me to any Atlanta folks that I can PM, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You explore mostly abandoned retail, but the one picture you chose to share is from an abandoned hospital.. Hmm.. Actually, that looks familiar.. Kentucky?

It is a great spot, I was there week. There seem to be a lot of homeless people and they weren't very friendly. 10/10 would explore again.

The problem is that you're asking for people to publicly share locations to explore. That just doesn't happen in this hobby. I recommend meeting up with a local explorer first before just jumping into abandonments in Atlanta.

I guess I thought maybe meeting up with someone was in the cards, especially if I could get a conversation going...it seems most folks were more interested in mocking a newbie to the site, which is fine--all in good fun. I also figured that any location sharing was done over PM. Admittedly, all of this was a long shot--short notice and all. But I was just excited to be in a new city and thought I would try.

Sure, I'll meet you for an explore. Pick a nice isolated abandoned building. We'll meet at night when it's real dark. Make sure you bring your expensive camera and your wallet. After all you're meeting a stranger from the Internet to commit a crime - I just want to make sure you have some money, errrr...I mean identification so I know who I'm exploring with.

Always bring your UER official ID card so you can be sure it is a fellow explorer.

Skutnick, to be fair you did get a like on your pics and another one somewhere else so it's not going too bad. Honestly just keep posting pics, stay at least somewhat active on the forums, and ask a few people who also post on here if they want to meet up (just try not to get mugged or something.)

Why don't people think of google? Thats where I started when I was a fresh explorer, and still where I look if I'm traveling. If anything is 'famous' enough to pop up in google using the city name and abandoned, then I know I can probably find it and have easy access. Also works if you search google news for hospital, plant, or factory closure in an area.

Plus theres foreclosure maps, environmental sites, crime maps, etc. Following railroad tracks or rivers on bing maps birdeye view is another great resources.

Sure it takes a little bit of time (very little) and leads to lots of false leads, but its always a fascinating bit of research and usually pays out. And nobody makes fun of you for being lazy.
