Founded in the late 1800's, Cedar Mountain started as a privately owned school for African Americans. The school was turned into a public school in the mid 20's and operated until 1973 when it was shut down due to desegregation. In 1979 it was turned into a local performance art school, and has seen appearances from Jazz legend Max Roach and filmmaker Spike Lee, until it was shutdown again in 2003. Of the 27 original buildings at Dogwood Mountain, only eight remain.
Wasn't able to spend as much time as I wanted to here, hopefully I can make a return trip soon.
