I'd like to get some input and thoughts about all of your opinions on this subject. While this is purely opinion I just think it would be a nice conversation topic. Do you guys prefer to go exploring alone or with a friends? And with friends, do you prefer one good friend or a big group?

Me personally I love going alone and with friends. There's just something about taking a walk all by yourself and going in an old run down building and admiring it and it can be very calming and relaxing. However I love having shared memories with friends and I can be very sentimental to locations and items if they are attached to such memories. However I feel as though I would prefer to go with a small group of friends like 1 or 2, not only to keep the trip enjoyable and not clustered but also safety and security reasons. No doubt going into a building with 6 of your friends is going to get some attention and noise. These are my thoughts on it.

I think it really depends on the location. I love draining with a lot of people with me, and I like it with just one with me.

I never go along unless it's infiltration. When it's high risk because of security, I like going alone because I know how I will act and I know how well I can keep myself concealed from sight. But I feel like other people are a really unpredictable factor. Cranes, I will do by myself. I will do anything by myself where there is little risk of running into dangerous people.

Abandoned things, I always go with someone, you never know what kind of people you might encounter (taggers, scrappers, hobos, druggies, etc), and I don't want to be outnumbered and possibly injured and no one know where I am.

Likewise, depends on the location. I'm comfortable exploring some places with a large group, but others I'll do with just one other person depending on the risk of being caught. Very rarely do I explore solo, though. Just the way it is.

I went alone for a few years before I decided to come to this site and find others. Most of the places I went alone were pretty dangerous... but I thought why stop doing what i love just because I have no one to enjoy it with. After a few close calls by myself, I came here. Now I will never have to be alone again and i got some super wonderful friends out of it. =) The group I go with is usually 4 - 5 people which at first made me nervous about getting caught but now I am used to it and would not have it any other way.

I almost always explore by myself. I haven't met any other explorers in person so I don't really have anyone to go with. When I started, I was kind of apprehensive about exploring alone but I've gotten used to it and now I enjoy being the only person currently wandering around some huge school or ancient farmhouse. Definitely wouldn't be opposed to exploring in a group but for me, it's not a necessity.

My personal preference is just me and one other person, the bare minimum. At a push, me and two others.

I like the idea of exploring alone, however on the few occasions I have done a solo jaunt I never relaxed and settled down. I'd much rather have the safety net of another pair of eyes watching my back should I get into troubles and vice-versa. I really don't like the big groups that go round exploring places on mass at once, way to go getting yourselves noticed as you queue up to climb a fence.

I've always gone alone except for once. I had a friend who wanted to try it, but she didn't really like it, so I've soloed everything else since. None of my other friends are all that interested either.

So, I always go solo, but in my area, I feel safe enough that I'm fine with that. Plus, it helps to know exactly what my capabilities are in any given situation, without having to worry about someone who has never entered an abandonment before in their life.

Pretty much whatever I'm doing I go with a friend, maybe two. I have backup if need be, company, and photo subjects as well. It's just more fun with another person at my side, and it's incredibly useful. A group any larger than three, however, would be too large for urban exploration in my opinion.

I never explore alone but I never bring more than 2 people with me because I don't want to attract too much attention.

I would think that the size of the group depends on the size of the location. Abandoned farmhouse? Solo to two friends would probably be the most you could get away with. But I've heard of groups of up to a dozen entering those massive industrial facilities that take days to explore, and don't get caught.

It just depends on the place and the people, I guess.

For me, with friends. Although from time to time I do go alone I don't find it as enjoyable as infiltrating with somebody else who knows what their doing as well.

I explore my majority of "randomly found" locations alone simply because there is little to no context for inviting anyone else to tag along.

I am either seeing the place as I find it that same day, or I am coming back to it right away, because the week you decide to wait around for someone else to tag along can be the same week your precious building gets demolished.

However, locations that are not "randomly" found are a different story, and I'd bring anyone along to see these because I've done enough of exploring alone to want to break up the monotony with a guest.

I have taken at least one person on almost all of my trips. If a place is very secluded and uninhabited, I might make an exception and go alone. However, I prefer to have one I can trust come along for the ride.

Depends on the risk. 90% of the time I'm going with a friend, for safety's sake. To be honest though, I favor going it alone. It's quiet, gives me a sense of focus, and I don't have to worry about my partner messing up.

In my opinion, there's too much potential for injury if you're alone.
2-3 people is ideal, anymore than that and it comes a bit much.

All alone can be fun for local places or places you've been before. I personally would want friends if I was exploring something new or in another state.

I usually go with my buddy who has the same passion for old buildings as I do. I did explore a church last summer on my own, it was okay, but I was much more "on edge" than usual. I'm glad I did though because the place was demolished shortly afterwards. Unfortunately my friends schedule and mine do not often match up, so I have been trying to find other people in my area that are into exploring.

For me it all depends on the location, some people are not responsible enough/physically able to handle going into certain areas. Having people with you can be very helpful when it comes to emergency situations, hauling gear around(mostly beer) and keeping watch for any unwanted attention that we may have drawn with our questionable activities. However for me nothing can compare to subterranean solitude.

If you do it alone, isn't that called masturbation?

Starting to hear an echo in here, but I'll add my voice to that, and agree that it all depends on location.

All of my explorations so far have been solo, but there are some I'm waiting on others to explore with. Some locations are either a really sketchy area or questionable structurablilty, and I'd prefer to have backup.
