Established in 1939. now abandoned 2014. Will eventually be raised. Shutdown due to high murder and crime rate.

It's black widow!

Ironically, this probably raises the crime rate.

Reminds me of this guys project in Atlanta: http://forgottenatlanta.com/

He goes around shooting lots of the old projects around here. That being said, I'm a bit cautious to shoot projects anywhere, so props to you for having the balls to do it. Really clean photos, and the aerial was a nice touch. I assume there probably wasn't much inside, besides what you pictured?

Some of the apartments still had furniture in them and personal effects and stuff thrown on the ground through the windows.
Would have stuck around a little longer but, I had an audience when I came out of one of the buildings.

Yeah man i'm not surprised. Have yet to find any abandoned projects in Atlanta that aren't being watched by the neighborhood. Local residents usually get upset when they see people snoopin around. Great set btw, the personal things left behind always pique my interest.

Someone please remind me what the hanging shoes symbolize. I occasionally see shoes hanging from power lines in my small town, but I'm never sure if some kids have done it as a joke or if it's legit.

I dunno...I explored some on the eastside earlier in the summer that weren't bad. It seemed almost like the residents died with the buildings, not a stir the entire time. It was almost scarier that way though.

I've heard two things; one: they indicate that someone died in the area, usually gang related, and two: they serve as a meeting place to buy/sell drugs.

It goes back for decades and really only means that some bullies stole a kid's shoes. Whether it's taken on a new meaning in some circles I'm not sure, but for the most part I don't think it's anything dark.

Props to you for exploring abandoned projects. There are some in my city that were shut down for the same reason. I rode through there, but don't have the balls to go explore them.
