Cheap Gloves for Climbing

Hello Fellow Rookies,

I just wanted to mention something that I bought a few weeks ago. I was in Home Depot looking for some non-UE related items when I passed a display for a cheap pair of gloves (somewhere around 6 or 7 bucks) called "Gorilla Grip Gloves." They are small and lightweight rubber gloves, and could easily be worn inside another pair, like the large leather pair I carry when I go exploring. The fingers and hands of the Gorilla Gloves are very textured, which helps to increase the wearer's grip on metal and similar surfaces. Since they are thin, I doubt they will last very long under rough conditions, but I have used my pair frequently in the past few weeks and have already gotten my money's worth out of them.

I am certainly not much of a climber, so please take my advice with a grain of salt. Maybe someone more adept at the skill has seen or used these gloves and has some feedback on them. They've definitely been helpful to me, however.

I would totally wear these for climbing.

But seriously, can you post an image of them? There are a lot of possibilities on Google Image Search.

Sure, I don't have the packaging anymore or I would show that too.

1. This shows the pair, one palm up and one down.

2. Here is the back of the hand and the logo.

Like I said, I'm not really a climber, so I'm ignorant of they types of gloves out there on the market that help you to maintain a grip. I'm sure those are probably more pricey, though. I like these because they are cheap and very lightweight, and can be worn inside the work gloves I usually wear for protection.

Chalk is all you need for hand grip. Gloves take so much away from your senses.

Thanks for the reply Tom, and welcome to the site. I am still quite new myself.

Yeah, I had second thoughts after making my post, imagining rookies like myself plummeting to their deaths after wearing the gloves I recommended. Hopefully they would try them out in a safe setting first, LOL!

I keep a pair or two of similar gloves in my gear box. When the weather is warm they are great. While they aren't super sturdy, they provide some protection from the timbers and sharp metal that we tend to crawl around on underground. I also keep a pair in my vehicle for a tire change or jump start.

Those are the kind of gloves I use all the time. They work really nicely most of the year round. Grips a camera well too (which is always a bonus!).

For that kind of money they probably won't last you long, this is what I use, got them for around $40.

You are correct. They don't last very long at all. That said, they are inexpensive and work reasonably well. Like many other things, when used in the right situation they are pretty decent. No one will ever mistake them for quality gloves like the Mechanix Wear gloves that you pointed out. I have a few pairs of those as well. REALLY like them.

I'm not much of a climber either, but I DO want to keep my hands clean, but at the same time I want to keep the dexterity with my fingers. Like still being able to text, take picture or whatever. so I picked up a pair of mastercraft similar to these. and I LOVE them!
