Probably not, if all you're doing is walking around. Now, if the place gets trashed/scrapped/tagged, and they're butthurt about it then yeah they may have some ability to submit your ugly mug as evidence for a LEO to check into.

Same goes for if they get tired of throwing people out of there. They may have pictures of you showing when you've been there. That may turn a simple situation where a guard simply shows you the door into being detained because they recognize you.

It really comes down to the situation, the site, and the owner/security.

That's all we do with our camera footage. Either use it for internal use (who made a mess in the bathroom, who stole someone's bike outside, etc) or if it becomes something the police get involved in, we save the clip and give it to them for evidence.

...and 1080p high res zoomable cams are great fun to play with

Stick something black over the lens (so it's not particularly visible from the ground but blocks the camera's view) and leave. Come back later to see if somebody removed it. Should make it obvious. If camera is functional, somebody would investigate if it should become non-functional.

I'd rather not get that close as the dogs are always right there barking away.

SO if there's security dogs, isn't the camera functionality irrelevant? I mean you said you don't want to deal with dogs - so camera is irrelevant? Am i missing something?

No the dogs are just house pets. Thats a backyard which happens to be the best way to get in (passing it)

Ply the pups with steak. Visit often, give them bits of steak. They will stop barking at you once they are aware of who you are.

That depends on if the animals are trained or not. Dog treats are safer then steak and cheaper.

Word. Though for my money, that cam's a fake. Flashing red lights are a dead giveaway, especially on anything modern. Stupid names written on the side are as well, but I have seen a few real deals with it too. Not many, though.

I used to install security cameras all the time and they don't have to have 2 wires to be real, a lot of the bullet cameras I've installed only have 1 wire and a big way to tell between fake and real... Real cameras don't blink

Like Sam said, real security cameras don't have that little blinking light, altought be carefull, infrared cameras will have a bunch of visible red LED on the front when it is dark(that's a good indication that they are real). They will usualy be square, plain, plastic unit, also almost all the time they will have one single cable hooking up straight into the base or mount. Reals cameras don't have things like "CCTV" or "Security cam" written on them, if something is written on them, it's gonna be a brandname, panasonic and sanyo are common. Anyway, you should always assume they are real and don't try to blind or cover them, it could trigger a "lost signal" alarm somewhere which would instantly void your cover if the place is closely monitored.

the idea is to cover it up then leave and come back the next day.

Just make sure your camera doesn't have a really good IR filter on it.

My cell phone camera (Galaxy S3) sees IR decently enough. Haven't tried using it to see cameras with though.

Pelco
Axis
Samsung
Speco

are some popular ones. I will say this a large portion of the time even if there's a camera it's not actively monitored. However depending how serious the people are we do have the ability to have software notify if there's a change noticed on the camera out of the ordinary and alert security. Outside of owning a production company I've also / still do install camera systems. Most of the camera systems we install either require only one wire (data) and are network based. Even if it's an analog system it can still have just one "wire" it could be just a single jacket with power and video or a Siamese cable.

Though most cameras are recording based on motion. So if you're careful about your movement / are far enough away the camera might not pickup on you.
