October 23, Abandoned Apartment complex in Austin

Me and a friend went exploring in Austin earlier at a recently abandoned apartment complex. It was very recent, because the place still had water and electricity, which is why all the lights are on in the indoor pictures. It was a pretty surreal place, people just up and left. Enjoy!

BONUS! Some shots of Austin from across the river.

It's not classically abandoned and decrepit, but abandoned nonetheless - soon to be forgotten. And by forgotten I mean demo'd.

Great discovery! Be careful with security though.

Thanks! Surprisingly we didn't encounter a single person. No security there, really.

I like the last pic. It always amazed me how similar the Cincinnati and Austin sky lines are

Nice find! Skyline pic came out awesome! So I can't tell but was anything in the fridge rotted or anything? If not, that was REALLY recent. Crazy!

pizza picture brought chills to my core.... not sure why, but it did.

Oh yeah, everything in that fridge was bad. Actually, the hot sauce was probably still good. But no, it wasn't that recent. Thanks!

That's neat. Large complex, or a small one? Surprised it's still in that good of shape.

It's pretty large, three stories and about 4 or 5 buildings. Like I said, it was recently abandoned, which explains why its in such good shape.

I think the frame in #8 is an "our first Christmas" ornament, but I agree that it doesn't look like a good sign that they left it behind. Especially in a box of rotting pizza.

Worse, it was hidden in a cupboard above the fridge!

I revisited the place recently and took some more photos. Didn't think it deserved a separate thread.

Sounds like someone wanted it out of sight and out of mind but couldn't bear to throw it away. Sad.

Checked it out yesterday. Not bad. Looks like it was probably built in the 70's and they kept up with repairs pretty well. I'd guess if there wasn't some huge problem that wasn't easily seen, it was probably sold to be torn down so they could build another huge loft highrise. It wouldn't surprise me with how many others they're building right now.

Cool! That's what I heard from the sibling of one of the previous tenants that had to leave when the fence went up, someone bought it and they're going to build a high rise in its place.

The place seemed to be structurally sound, except for one of the concrete and metal staircases on the paved road perpendicular to the road the place sits on. There were a couple bolts missing from the steel fasteners at the top of the stairs, which made me just about shit bricks when the thing started swaying.

I'm about 80% sure one of my friends lived here in college.

I am surprised whoever bought it hasn't sent in a crew to strip out anything salvageable yet, that's usually first on the list before the crackheads and copper thieves get in there. But then the Austin real estate market is so ridiculous the buyer can probably afford to demo that place as is.

Thanks for all the interest, guys! I went there yesterday and it looks like some sort of construction has started. I know they're building a footbridge behind the place, and that's where the construction workers were, but I didn't really want to risk it.

Just a heads up to anyone headed over there.
