| | Exploring abandoned houses next to not-abandoned houses? < on 9/14/2013 10:21 PM >
| | | Hey! New explorer here. (2-3 locations in Miami, FL) I've read up on the basics (don't break and enter by making new points of entry, etc) I've found a lot of abandoned houses and businesses next to actively lived in ones here in GA I want to check out, but I'm afraid of being discovered and/or looking suspicious. Do you guys have any tips for abandonments next to non-abandonments like this? Should I try venturing into more remote places instead? Am I asking something dumb? (Sorry if that is the case.) I'm kinda afraid to even go around the block scouting the location(s) because of potential eyes watching.

| | | Best advice is to scout. Chat up some locals but subtly

| | | I've been out on a few recon missions to check out places next to houses, I usually appear benign by walking my dog, and bringing my camera, to take photos of the dog, of course! Practice shooting photos with the camera not held up, you can get lots of info discreetly and then review the pix at home.

| | | Drive-by to get an idea of the schedule of the neighborhood, and if the places really are abandoned (I practically shat myself when, after exploring a place, I found the two cars--which hadn't moved for the entirety of my scouting week--had switched places.) Since I have college, I like to do my explorations mid-week afternoon. Odd time for people to be home. People that would care, anyway. If you think someone is watching you, just keep walking. (I had an exploration where someone sat in their car, in their driveway and watched me for a good ten minutes. I walked a quarter-mile past the place before they left.)
