I've never been caught but had a close call once. I was at an abandoned resort and when going back to the car someone driving by spotted us walking through the tall grass on an old access road. He popped his truck in reverse and started yelling at us. We hit the deck and stayed there. Finally another car came up behind him and it being on a mountain road he had to continue to avoid blocking traffic. We didn't know he left though, so eventually we figured it out and sprinted to the car and made a smart u-turn to avoid running into him at the bottom of the hill. We went the long way around where it was harder to tell where we were coming from. It was dicy but all ended well.

You spent the night in a drunk tank at 15 instead of being released to your parents?

Damn.

Had you considered that there's a difference between scaling a fence...

And scaling a fence while drunk-as-fuck while you're on your way to smoke somewhere, while being 15?

I don't really think the "scaling the fence" part of the story was what got you busted...

Hahahaha, touché... I suppose I should have used the word coincidently as that event wasn't the cause of me not crossing more fences, just happened to be the last one.

Bees. Fucking bees. I hate fucking Bees. I detest bees. Whats better, is walkin the back way to a score, steppin on a bees nest, runnin OUT OF YOUR FUCKING SHOES, tripping, fallin, getting stung on your face AND FUCKING BARE FEET CAUSE ONE FOUND A WAY INTO YOUR GODDAMN SOCK! I mean really? You stung my fuckin foot. And you can't get back at a bee. Its a fucking bee. What can you do to a bee. Nothing, thats what you can do. Not a GODDAMN FUCKING THING. So, now, you don't want to explore. You are a solid mile of woods and rocks and gravel road from your car. You can't find your shoes because the fuckin shoe fairy of the wood must have gotten them, and it wouldn't fit your left foot anymore since its swollen up. So you walk. Barefoot. With one throbbing. With your lip swollen due to a sting, along with the 10 other stings you have. All the way back to your car. A cop is the least of your worries and at that point, you will just knock the shit out of him anyway because maybe, just maybe, he will pull out the gun and put you out of your misery.

So yeah, fuck bees.

This wins everything and I am going to bed now goodnight.

I just got caught in downtown Modesto a couple days ago climbing into the back of an abandoned house. The cop was really cool about it though and let me off with a warning, he said if it was any other cop i'd be going to jail. Rule of thumb: Downtown Modesto is not the safest place to urbex.
Other than that i've never been caught. I had a close encounter once with a security guard but last second i dove for the hillside, apparently I blended in the darkness of the night because he drove right pass me.

I've only been caught once and got extremely lucky. I was exploring a place called the Sugarmill in Colorado years ago, climbed out to run into the Sherif. Fortunately it was the middle of the day and I had a camera in my hands. I explained what I was doing and ended up having a friendly 30 min conversation. He did tell me to never go inside again and that a police dog had died inside chasing vandals. Before we parted ways he told me it was fine if I stayed outside and took pictures, gave me his business card, and told me to call him if I had any future issues! Honestly it kind of blew my mind how nice he was.

Some friends and I had a close call at an abandoned hospital. One of my friends swears that they had the spotlight on us at one point, and then they started driving towards us. We made it to the fence and heard sirens and we all just dropped to the ground and the guy drove past really fast. Don't know if there was a cop messing with us, he didn't see us, or something more important came up. We quickly made it back to the car after that.

We were pulled over by a cop once while we were walking too, asking us if we had been on top of one of the train bridges here. We gave him a straight up yes and he seemed confused we didn't try to deny it or anything. He was just like 'uh, ok. be careful.' and that was that.

Around here most of the cops seem pretty cool, as long as you're straight up with them, they probably deal with a lot of teens messing around and being sketchy.

Me and my friend used to go check out the mostly-abandoned Rantoul Air Force Base late at night around midnight to 2 AM every other week. It was one of the first 'real' places I did urbex and the place was an absolute gold mine of places to explore. One night while looking around for a new place on the compound we pulled into an empty parking lot and got ready to get out. Right as I start getting unbuckled the whole place lights up with a blinding red and blue flash. It felt completely surreal. I looked at my friend, eyes wide open and mouth slightly agape, and I have to imagine I had the same look he did. Didn't feel like it was really happening. I can't remember if either of us said anything to each other, but if we did it was probably something along the lines of "well, shit".

Anyway, two young officers hop out of a black SUV and walk up, and ask us to step out of the car. We're patted down and told to stand still while they search the car. They pop back out two minutes later seemingly satisfied, and were happy to inform us there were no drugs in the car. I took over and tried to point out our large, expensive cameras in the back seats. They seemed content with the explanation that we were harmless photographers. Before we were cut loose the officer felt obligated to ask what our respirators were for. He explained that although we clearly weren't drug dealers, there had been a recent epidemic of copper thieves in the area. (Apparently our respirators were more evidence of being scrappers than my friend's crowbar/Ka-Bar combo that he insists on carrying everywhere, which I'm not sure if they actually found...) I panicked and went silent. My friend came up with the most seemingly bizarre excuse I could have imagined: "My parents are preppers."

The officer thought for a second and gave him an understanding nod. We were then told to go straight home and try coming back during daylight hours. Needless to say we never came back. That's as close as I've come to the bad side of law enforcement thus far and as close as I want to come.

Heard on tumblr that the place is being demolished soon, or something like that. RIP Rantoul AFB.

Had a close call a couple weeks ago at an abandoned mine that's connected to a separate active cold storage facility. One way in, one way out. you either walk 2 miles in plain sight down train tracks next to the entire facility, or drive right in through the gate like you belong there. we've always drove in without any issue.

This particular time we decided to take some friends on their first explore. It was dark outside, but we figured no big deal it's a 24 hour facility...wrong. After exploring the mine/getting lost for 4.5 hours we finally came out around 2AM. walked to our car and noticed the parking lot was empty. We joked as we packed up "hope they didnt lock up and leave". They did.

we made it to the entry gate and decided to go talk to the guy in the guard shack. He was kicked back, feet up, T.V. blaring, and out light a light bulb. we finally woke him up and explained our situation. He said his supervisor instructed him not to let our car out until Monday when he came back. The guard didn't say anything about being told to call the police if he saw us or anything which seemed odd to us that he wanted to hold our car. He said they have had trouble with stolen cars being dumped back there.

long story short he called his boss at 2:30AM. He was pissed and said he was on his way and calling the cops. we left the car and bolted it down the train tracks.

Went back the next day and made sure the gate was open (it was half way). drove to the nearest road on the back side of the property and hiked 3 miles through the woods to the back side of the mine. Jumped in the car and blew through the gate. the security guard jumped in his truck and started coming after me in a truck but I was long gone.

Lesson learned: don't get locked in!

I got stopped by the cops last night, but that was for walking down the side of a road in the dark. In the end they just gave me a lift the last mile to my friends house.

Good lookin out LMPD.

Got chased off the hill at Malden Medical by a completely insane watchman who couldn't speak English. When I mean "chased", I mean I was tearing 30-40mph down the side roads of the hill trying to lose this moron in his Chevy Suburban when we finally got to the bottom and lost him at an intersection. Meanwhile we could hear sirens coming from the opposite direction which, luckily, never got to us.

got caught with a couple friends in a place we werent supposed to be, a little too early in the night. we bailed and i got stuck in some barbed wire and couldnt get free til the cops were right there. the cops were assholes but were close to letting me go until i mistakenly called one of the officers "maam." didnt go over well with the baby faced male cop, and i earned myself a trespassing ticket

A friend and I were exploring around his neighborhood, mostly looking for drains to try, when we found a house that look abandoned. We looked at it for a while, but decided that it looked relatively new and we shouldn't try to go in it. While we're walking back home, a police cruiser stops us and asks us if we were messing with a vacant building, and apparently some lady had called the cops thinking we were breaking in. xD
We got off with a warning after we explained that we were just looking for an entrance to a nearby pond (which seemed to have a drain we wanted to explore, so we partially told the truth).

I was exploring a previously abandoned high school that's now used for police training when a cop showed up and watched our entrance (broken window) for at least 5 minutes before he pulled around to the other side of the school.

1. This picture was taken from the 2nd floor. If you look closely you can see tire tracks. Our entrance was right below where this photo was taken.

As soon as he pulled out of the courtyard we got the fuck out of that building. I've never been back to explore which is a shame because the place is HUGE.

I was caught shortly after I have I exited a building, but since it was a campus I was still somewhere I shouldn't of been, of course no trespassing signs are everywhere.. but I use the same excuse every time I'm there.

I saw a cruiser coming straight at me, and I just kept walking and as we got close to each other he stopped and asked what I'm doing so I told him I'm just going for a walk, and he had said no ones allowed on the grounds.
I just said I thought it was the buildings no one's allowed in.
He lets me go.
