| | | Of course you're not, you just come prancing up in here spitting shit out the mouth, because you don't care about anyone here, you don't care about our beliefs, morals, or any of that other crap. People are telling you things for a reason. Your idea is moronic, you're not prepared to do the things you say safely, and if you do attempt this and do somehow find one of these secret shafts, you're going to seriously injure or kill yourself or somebody else. The fact that you totally disregard everything that is said to you says a lot about you and your status as an "Urban Explorer". We're here to help you, and if that means telling you NOT to do something, there's probably a reason for that and you should take it in to consideration, but you need to at least respect us enough not to make locations hot, or endanger someone else.

| | | I recently found out my Uncle was involved in the project management for the SSC back in the day and I was pretty psyched to discover that but I just wish I had known BEFORE I went to check out the facility lol but anyway I went a few years ago and nearly got arrested after just 30 minutes of being there, cops were patrolling it very highly and we found our car surrounded by 3 cop cars...only place to park was really ON the property especially since it was 100+ degree heat and walking a ways to the location would not have been fun or doable especially since my friend ended up getting food poisoning that hit him on arrival lol but he wanted to check it out anyway so we did and he got pretty dehydrated too especially just standing there while we chatted with the cops but luckily I think that also was a reason they let us go with just a warning so it kind of helped...I actually have some bad video of the place with the audio of him vomiting in the SSC lol pretty terrifying: https://www.facebo...648115095548066143 (yes I know it's on my personal facebook but I really don't care since I don't explore hardly at all anymore these days lol just occasionally lurking on the forums) ...we really just wanted to see the facility and also see if we could find a poe to the tunnels in the process but didn't expect to and of course the only holes in the ground we found were filled in or flooded. After talking to my uncle though he said, like most former people who worked on it, that almost all of the tunnels were buried and filled in or flooded...they even buried the boring machines in the tunnels because it was more cost efficient to fill them in with them in it. He also told me of some interesting stories about when it was getting closer to the cancellation of the project (also my uncle does tend to glorify or exaggerate sometimes so some of this may not be 100% accurate)...this was an international project that multiple countries were contributing to and wanted to be a part of including Russia of course since it was canceled they most likely won't partake in a similar project in the US. But anyway, the funds for the SSC had planned to buy some sort of $500,000 engine or some important part for the project from the Russian government. The part was in the process of being delivered when the cancellation of the funds for the project occurred so they tried their hardest to still get their money for the part....they had to send it in on train and then load into a semi...the ssc people had posted some sort of local patrol to prevent anyone from completing any further shipments the funds would have to pay for so the delivery truck driver heard about this and decided not to take the highways so they wouldn't know it was still coming and so they took back roads to main facility and literally drove over an open field into the parking lot past guards to drop it off at the back door and had someone who didn't know what was going on sign for it and the Russian government therefore got their payment. lol Funny thing was the funding was partly canceled because Clinton had decided to keep funds into the space exploration programs instead however had he known how much further thats gotten us now he might of chosen differently. My uncle also revealed to me that he also had some very unique items involving the SSC...he had some t-shirts, a coffee mug, both bearing this logo: AND the best part, he also had several of these double sided posters (its been rolled up in a tube for years so i had to sprawl it out and hold it open so I apologize for the bad quality photos...I am gonna try and scan this though): Front: (not sure you can see it in the photo but the top right corner has a dotted line that says "Cut here if the SSC is defeated" lol I didn't because i didn't wanna ruin the poster) Back: I was fortunate to get the mug and the poster too! But anyway just thought I would share that info since some of that was stuff I haven't seen online personally. IF you do go looking for it, good luck and hope you do find what your looking...I (and many others) stopped trying because it just doesn't seem worth the risk or effort just to see a large hole in the ground considering the likely hood of finding it...there are easier to get into and locate massive holes in the ground that I'd rather see and have seen personally but that's just me.

| Dude, you're being an overbearing dick. Can't you convincingly state your opinion without straight-up insulting the man? Mellow the fuck out. Believe me, folks tend to listen to reasonable advice when the person sharing it doesn't act like a self-possessed prick.

| | | Posted by Astro I say this as someone who had to be pulled out of a 100ft tunnel. I am thankful every moment now for the friends I have, but I also know just how difficult that getting people in and out who KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING can be.
| Astro makes an extremely good point man, as one of the people that was there when that particular instance happened i can assure you that if someone needed to be hauled out of that 300' hole, the harness shock would kill them. also I'm not sure you understand how physically taxing a 300' ascent up rope actually is. i drug up all of Astro's gear on my back when we got her off the rope and 40 extra pounds up 100' was just about the most exhausting thing I've done in a good long while. if you are even a little uncertain about your ability to climb back up that rope, don't go, you will get harness shock, effectively have a stroke, and die at the top of a 300' hole in the ground in what appears to be the middle of nowhere, texas. i don't know you, but i would have serious reservations about doing this and i consider myself a capable climber. stay within your limits, whatever those happen to be. whatever you choose, good luck.

| I had forgotten to even mention harness shock. At about 100ft of being pulled up, I was only on the rope for maybe 25 minutes. Probably less, more like 15. When I finally got the top, I had no feeling in my legs and once they got me over the edge...I couldn't stand, I sat down for about 3 minutes before I could even control my legs, much less put weight on them. Assuming you could pull someone out at 15 minutes per 100ft...that's 45 minutes and in all reality...would more than likely be about an hour which has pretty high potential of then killing someone when reflow syndrome sets in. So suspension trauma and then reflow syndrome are some of the most dangerous feats here. this is assuming you can ever get to that point in trying to get a stranded person out.

| | | Has anyone found E2? I think F1 is most likely filled in since there is a big gravel pit near where it should be, although I haven't found any sunken impressions like you can see at the main site where C1 and E2 have been filled in. So, it's probably true that all the big shafts are filled. That leaves us with the question of whether there exists any other means of entry--unfortunately, the literature I've seen so far is unclear on this matter. There are a number of documents here, to access them just add the name as shown . pdf onto the url. For example, if you want the file ssc-n-846, the url to request would be http://lss.fnal.gov/archive/other/ssc/ssc-n-846.pdf
