i'm not going to argue semantics here. sure he may have seen them, but he certainly didnt read them as what he is saying/asking has already been thoroughly covered.

I've read the threads, but I'm starting to think nobody else has! The vent that's been discussed isn't a POE into the tunnels and isn't even in the right area -- it's not even close, in fact. The only site that gets any coverage is the main facility now owned by the Magnafolks. Guess what--this thread is about the tunnels. The main facility has been discussed to death, explored and vandalized to death, and even if it wasn't an active site, and still explorable, I wouldn't have anything to add!

The tunnels, on the other hand, are very much uncharted territory (nobody has explored them or even found a POE) and my goal is to reach them if possible. If you want to assist me in the search for a viable POE, I have a very useful diagram to share with you. Just PM me and I'll send. And, in case it's not clear, the areas of interest (possible POE) are miles away from the main site.

Alright, I am going to put this out there now.

I have stated my objections to this and they were ignored.

I am going to go off this.

Posted by wr0x2
Here are the big issues besides the tunnels probably being flooded:

1) shafts likely on private land
2) shafts will likely require plasma cutter / thermal lance / thermite to access due to being welded shut and / or not designed for human entry

1 is not necessarily a huge issue.

2 is a bigger problem (due mostly to increased legal risk) but circumventing these type of obstacles--although unprecedented for UER--is certainly feasible.

Now, getting a diver down there after all this is something else, I would agree. But gaining access to a shaft? It can certainly be done.

You are proposing something that is very likely to get someone killed.

Thermite is a bad idea.
do you even have access to it? I know a few people who can get it. But it's not something you hand out to kids like poprocks and fire crackers.

Assuming you can get to a part where you can descend into it. Are you knowledgeable enough on rope techniques or some other way to get people down there AND BACK UP? What if something goes wrong in either of these? Now you have used thermite to break into something that you have admitted isn't more exciting than a large tunnel, AND you are potentially putting people's lives at risk.

I say this as someone who had to be pulled out of a 100ft tunnel. I am thankful every moment now for the friends I have, but I also know just how difficult that getting people in and out who KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING can be. What about those who don't? anyone who agrees to all of this NEEDS to know EXACTLY what it is you think you're planning. At this point, you are risking lives and a lot of jail time...for a giant flooded hole.

Do you know what thermite is? It's finely granulated aluminum and rust (from iron). I know because I made some when I was a freshman in high school, and set it off with magnesium.

Anyway, thermite was an example, to demonstrate feasibility. All shafts are purported to be filled but I'm not totally sure this is true. In any case, if we can find an entry, nobody will be sent in without proper safety precautions. I know it will be dangerous even if everything goes right.

Also, I want to make clear that I DO appreciate people's safety concerns, and welcome any safety advice. However, I have a nagging suspicion that concern for my well-being isn't really why everyone is complaining...

yes, i do.. and i also know that igniting an incendiary device is not a light criminal charge, either.

Lighting an incendiary device is no problem until you try to do something illegal with it. All your patronizing, know-it-all disparagement is worse for the forum than my "dead horse" thread.

this is quite an ignorant edit to add to your reply.

our concern is the well-being of the other people you plan to get wrapped up into this.

our concern is the media coverage that will result in the headline, "3 PEOPLE FELL TO THEIR DEATH TODAY ATTEMPTING TO INFILTRATE EX-GOVERNMENT UNDERGROUND FACILITY. ONE PERSON HAD A BOOKBAG WITH AN I.E.D. POSSIBLE TERRORIST PLOT"

..oh, and of course, we're slightly worried about your own well-being.

Thank you. Sorry to all the interested members--I've received several PMs in support of this project and would like to inform any newcomers to the thread that messaging me is the best way to get anything done, since the thread isn't really suitable at this point.

Actually, I do know what thermite is. Turns out, I'm fairly well educated. I know the gases released when burned are toxic. I know its really fucking loud (which tends to be an issue when trying to secretly get into places). And I know it burns at high fucking temperatures. I'm sure that despite being in the middle of nowhere, none of that would go unnoticed. I'm sure of, actually.

Whether the tunnels are flooded or not its a huge descent. If they are flooded, descending down there is one of the worst ideas ever. if they aren't, cool but its still dangerous as fuck.

Am I worried about your safety? No. I won't lie about that. What I AM worried about is anyone who doesn't know you, thinks its a cool idea and doesn't understand how huge the safety risk is.

Heat is the wrong word. I would actually be willing to meet with you here in Houston/Galveston just to see your plan laid out. Matter of fact, we could explore and discuss it at the same time.

Yeah man, I'll defend your right to explore until I'm blue in the face but blowin' shit up? Damn, worst I do is tear a board off or give a door jamb a nice bootlick. I don't ever bring tools, weapons or shit that could explode. That shit is nuts. I just wanna take some pics, drink some beers and bullshit with like-minded freaks.

Thanks Guy, you rock, dude.
We don't have beautiful naked girls like Astro running around but we can rock an abandonment well-enough without Thermite explosions. There's an office of Homeland Security in Philly and they'd be all over that like white on rice. I got enough problems, like my beer gettin' warm and shit like that.
