Hiding in plain site: Dressing up and pretending like you are supposed to be there.
This thread is about anything related to this kind of strategy, whether it be tips. information, or stories!

This got me into a tiny medical place once. It was right in the middle of a supermarket and strip mall parking lot, the Mcdonald's drive through even circled around the POE.

I figured I'd look like I was meant to shoot it for a realty company or something. Parked out front and walked in.

Really all you need is confidence, though. I doubt I needed the tie.

I walked into a local fire department's "Authorized Personnel Only" area in mid day, looked at the smashed cars and climbed the training tower. I'm lucky I wasn't caught, actually... I call it hiding in plain sight since I was successful.

I was exploring a site and had just come from work so I was dressed better than I normally do when UEing. A guy saw me taking shots of the exterior and approached me. Apparently there'd been a bad storm in the area the night before and he thought I was an insurance agent recording damage to the building. Worked for me!

Always pretend you are on the phone with someone and make them sound important. Like, your boss is on the phone asking about a type of tree or your mom is wondering about some sort of plant. The phone defense always works if you make it work.

When I worked on the road I'd often be in a company truck, with all my industrial electrician gear in it. So I'd just pull up to a site, get out, gear up and drop my traffic cone. If I got stopped by any kind of legitimate authority, (cops, owner, security guards) I'd bullshit them a bit about a fouled up address I'd been given and be on my merry way.

Wear khaki pants and a black polo shirt. Bluetooth is a plus. Walk like you own the fucking place.

I try to be as stealthy as possible on my adventures, but in a daytime setting in a busier place this has never failed me.

Likewise a hardhat, orange vest and workboots. I'm thinking that the respirator would make em flee in terror at the thought of asbestos, haven't tried it yet though.

I had a fire chief tell me that his city once had a hurricane bearing down on it and he had firefighters going door to door asking citizens to voluntarily evacuate to higher ground.

He received far higher compliance from those who were approached by firefighters in full turnout gear including helmets, than from those asked by firefighters in the standard uniform.

Wearing a respirator might result in some people leaving the area. A few others might stop, just to see if anything exciting was going on.

This one works well for stalling, too. Alot of the time when someone can see me I pretend to look through texts or listen to voicemails, making it seem like I can't do whatever I need to do until I'm done with the phone. It can buy you a few minutes even if you just need someone to fuck off so you can break the law.

Back to topic: I've used the cell phone trick once and it worked beautifully, breezed right by 2 guys who came looking for me.

This has been covered several times.

I do 95% of my recon in plain sight. I drive a 2008 white Ford Ranger and I throw on a hardhat and construction vest, carry a clipboard and pull up like a boss right out front, get out of the truck yelling at "Jose" on the phone, walk around like I'm super pissed that I have to check this goddamn abandoned building, try all the doors and windows to see if any are open, and if I find one, pretend to make a jot on the clipboard and bail, come back that night.

Works like a charm. Many, many time I've gone and checked out a location right in front of the cops or construction workers and nobody ever questions it. I wouldn't stick around in costume for a full explore, though.

I need to get my hands on a company truck. I would love to have this luxury. My dented and battered sedan doesn't do much for much for me in this regard.

Here's a question. Does anybody use those UER polos I always see being advertised in the banner above? They look as if they might be meant to be used for this purpose, to look like official company shirts to anyone not in the know (and identify a fellow traveller if you're someone who does frequent this site). So does anyone actually own one and use it for this purpose?

Yes, let's please bring as much attention as possible from law enforcement/security/owners to the hub of all of our trespassing exploits on their property.

If you want to go that route, go to your local thrift store and buy an old AT&T polo or some other work shirt for $1.50 and let them take the heat, not UER.

I was always in GE equipment and trucks, yet I worked for a company that was a wholly owned subsidiary of GE so my actual company name was never exposed. Made it a tad easier I think.

Looking like a bike messenger has made it really easy to get into (and then on top of) well-secured skyscrapers. Simple for me since so many messenger kids are punks. I just dress how I normally do but then wear my helmet attached to my bag, I've even had people card me into elevators without so much as asking where I'm headed.

I always explore with work boots on - I suppose wearing a hardhat and tape measure on my pocket would work. I've walked into operating places (for work) without signing in and never been questioned. I'm there for work reasons, and nobody seems to question it. (In low security operations - mfg, etc)

I've donned the high vis vests before, rocking on the idea that if you look like you're ment to be there code. I also really like the phone idea, I'm going to make sure to use that one next time. Won't work in the Quarries when you're 30m underground though
