| | | Hey guys i'm not new at UER or anything however I'm not too experienced with drains. Drains with size such as this are really nice but then again are rare and pretty hard to find. I'm more interested in manhole tunnels. I've popped a few but they were in suburban streets and crawl tunnels. I don't want to open one on a larger road because it would be like a massive pothole for cars and dangerous. Disregarding that, is some sign that a manhole or street drain leads to a large tunnel? Also post some successful manhole/street drain entrances if you have em'.

| | | I recently went in my first manhole entrance. it was in a big park and so didnt have to worry about cars but it was on a road. luckily there was a big plywood board laying around to put over the hole so no joggers or dogs would fall in it. got pretty lucky that night. ive als went int a few amazing drains through out falls that went under roads. so you dont always need to access good drains via manhole.

| | | I was biking around town and noticed a series of storm sewer manholes that looked awfully appealing, I think I'll investigate further on a warmer night. Other than just looking around, If your town government has a GIS/ map department, you could contact them saying you're working on a project about the effects of local storm drain systems, they might just help you out with finding the bigger ones. Just be very careful, and it'd really be best if you went a few times with someone with experience in drains.

Yep. I do.
Tell your parents where you are going incase you get into trouble underground... Your cell phone won't help you. |
Maybe not your parents, but someone responsible or a friend would work. Just give them a time you will contact them by and your location, and if you don't contact then tell them to call someone to go looking for you. Only reason im saying not your parents is taht i know if mine knew i was doing this crap they'd spaz. So yeah different options for if you're parents are like mine.

| | | Without a decent understanding of how your city's system works, randomly popping manholes isn't likely to yield much. Obtaining a map should be your top priority. Often times, complete or partial maps can be found online if socially engineering your way into a copy is too much for you. Old walkable trunk lines do often run under parks and open lots that provide manhole entry more suitable than the middle of a road-knowing where and in which parks to look for the manhole makes life a lot easier. Often times a system may only have one or two good entry points, and walking the entire length topside to check every one is necessary. Let someone know when you go draining, and don't go when it's raining, since this is the rookie forum.

I've popped a few manholes too, but they were mostly inside homes.
