No. Mods donating time to the forum does not translate into monetary funds for Av, so Mods and Admins do not get Premium Memberships. C.

| | | Posted by turbozutek The lines are blurring a bit now. Because it's not a 'donation' any longer - you are paying for a 'service' - Premium membership. I don't need ANY of the things that being a premium member affords me... Should I then stop donating ? I'm sure a lot of people will wonder at the answer to that one. Chris...
|
Remember BBS's, back in the day? You get a free account with limited downloads, limited time per day, etc... But once you paid a donation, you got unlimited downloads, and extra time per day. Same deal here. You get the regular "free" service if you want to, which is still an EXCELLENT service, but you get some added features, should you wish to donate. I REALLY don't see how this is an issue. Personally, I plan on donating to Av next time I get paid, and I don't really even need the premium service - to me, it's a donation, not a payment, and Av is giving you the services as a way of saying "Thank You". Don't like it? Tough shit. I'd LOVE to see you make a better forum. -Ex

please tell me youre joking....anyway i dont have money to donate right now (job hunt starts today) but if i do have some extra cash to throw in i dont really want any extra stuff. i do see how people can take this as paying for some extra goodies and what-not and i see why thats making some people upset, but hey if the extra goodies get a few more people to give some money then it was a good idea on Av's part. those who couldnt/didnt donate before arent missing anything, nothing was taken away, itll be for them as if this never happened, except that now a few people have another star.

Uhmmmm.. I think you will find that I donate regularly either way. Try reading a little before posting derogatory remarks - it is worth noting that if the Forums were shutdown and bulldozed into the sea tomorrow I wouldn't bat an eyelid as it's the LDB I like. The Forums don't do anything for me at all - no offence to anyone; just a personal preference of mine. So when I donate it's really for the LDB - each to their own. Uer has my full support. You could also read that in my previous posts if you like - you could then make an informed post. Thanks! Chris... PS: 'Better Forums ?' There are many - one in particular that is UE related and is local to me [And I moderate there]. UER.CA forums are not the beginning and end of the UE world. Sorry to burst the bubble there! | | | Re: Introducing: UER Premium Membership <Reply # 56 on 7/5/2004 3:25 PM >
| | | But the LDB and the Forum are part of the same site... so any donations take care of both, it's not that seperate a thing. I think anyone bitching about any bonus features people that donate get has honestly reached the height of stupidity. There's not a lot of ways that Av can say thank you for donations. He can give you a star and he can say thank you. By doing what he's doing, he's giving back in the way he's able, with some bonus features for the donators. If it is an incentive for people to donate, then great, it helps the forum/ldb out even more.
It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf. |

| | | I understand that Jester.. But just wanted to make the distinction between donation and 'service', in that - people shouldn't think of not donating because they don't use the new features of Corporate Edition - if you like the site and use the site; donate if you can. That's the way I see it. You know I donate regularly anyways. Chris...

| | | Posted by turbozutek Jester, I think 'Thanks for donating' is a nice form letter from Av and a title 'noble donor' or as mine 'Nobler donor' as I've donated a few times. Av, If you need more money for hosting the site I can well understand. I think you would be better to just mention that though... That it takes cash to do what you have done (Which is HUGE) sometimes people lose site of the fact that everything needs money... Me included - so I'm gonna go donate now. I'd rather not have any 'premium' or 'special' status though please. I don't like the idea of UER Gold Membership of any kind and the idea would I think put myself and a lot of people who maybe can't even afford $5 [Yes, there are some of us] off donating anything at all. Just my opinion is all. Chris...
|
Not to quote you or anything... ... but I think this will give incentives to donate and will probably end up generating MORE revenue then if a few people donate 20 dollars as opposed to many donating 5 dollars (or more) Plus it will keep money coming to Av and he won't have to post about bandwith, basically begging for money. I think this is a great idea and if I can get some work this weekend maybe I'll finally donate. Good luck, ~ F A S T EDIT: And as Jester says, why would anyone ask to be able to donate and not recieve premium benefits? Anyone who complains about something like this being offered is acting ridiculously ridiculous. Its a direct insult to Av. After he works to pay people back who donate, refusing to accept what he offers or complaining about him giving you something he wants to give you is downright obnoxious. I'm not one to always be politically correct, but some of the statements made above about the forums relating to UE are pretty dumb. UER has been a powerful force than unified a group of us. I can say for a fact I would not be exploring drains half as extensively if it were not for this website. I've seen countless photos read countless threads with all sorts of useful and entertaining information. Sorry to whoevers posts I'm refering to here. I also think though the dissolution of UER would not END UE persay it would blast a gaping whole in it. If you don't appreciate the forums, and would rather just use the LBD then do that, and ignore your premium featueres. If you don't even value the existance of the boards why are you posting here? I for one do not even want to hear your opinion if your best interest is ONLY got the LBD in mind and not for the forums as a whole. In the morning I will probably regret making this edit and maybe it is a little harsh in some spots, but you all can get my general opinion.
