SCR that cafe shot is sick. Looks like a painting. A really good one.

CR, you're turning into quite the shutterbug. I see your roots and water, and raise you a field of Zinnias and Marigolds.

I think SinCals shot looks like a christmas card, all it needs is a Harley or an old model A with a christmas tree tied to the roof.

Kurtz, I wanna lay naked in all those flowers............With a couple of strippers.

I may be too critical, but I dislike that they have turned prospecting into a gimmick and a plaything tourist attraction.

They should take those folks and kids out to the river, cut off a few fingers and toes to simulate hypothermia and frostbite, and let them freeze themselves while trying to pan out enough color to go buy a bottle of whiskey and a hooker.

Therrin, Its just like anything else in life, industry or hobby. If you want attention, credit, whatever it may be, its going to get washed out and be more towards the entertainment side. My passion is the oil industry, so it was cool to see the series "Black Gold", but it is not what real rig life is like. Same thing when people try to take UE mainstream, it gets washed out and loses the true grit of it. Just the way things are.

Decrepitude, Shots pretty sweet, I was looking at it wondering what post editing could be done to make the image one that makes people look at it and have to wonder if it is real or not lol, like maybe black and white, taking away some detail from the face and such >=)

I actually worked out in Elk Hills yesterday, on Oxy's site out there.

There were two other pads with drilling rigs on them, and mine had an assortment of 2 different kinds of pumps and free-flowing well heads.

I thought it was fairly interesting. I spent a large part of my day talking to the PROS guys.

Therrin.... Yeah I can give tours and explanation of the oil industry all day long with a big smile on my face, 14 years in it you learn a thing or two. I have 4 crews up at Elk Hills as we speak....

Kind of on a theme with my pics of the day right now, trying to learn HDR without making clown vomit....

There is no clown vomit in those. They're kinda refreshing in that crisp winter morning kind of way.

Therrin: You know as well as I do the people in these small towns depend on the tourists to pay their bills. If it wasnt for the foot traffic, most of these places would dry-up and blow away. Tacky tourism sucks (Virginia city anyone?) but its all some of these tiny towns have. I've panned for gold numerous times on the Downieville river while staying there to bike the Flume trail. Its fun but most of the river was taken up by peoples claims and high tech mini dredges and its pretty much ruined the fishing in that area. It isn't the 1800's anymore that's for sure. Lets not take this stuff too seriously huh?

Sincal: I don't really do much post on touristy shots of this nature (just exposure and filters). I like your shot of the Orthodox(?) church.

Another great one. One recommendation, you can use Smooth Highlights (if you're using Photomatix) OR the Adjustment Brush in Lightoom to make the snow and clouds white again.

I've never been a hater of HDR, I do like the more subtle uses of it, like what you've done. I really dig the church.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Sincal: This is a bit older picture so its just my kit lens, nothin fancy ( Nikon 55-108) I did have to freeze my ass off and take many exposures of about 1 1/2 minutes though. Lake Tahoe is a great place to shoot no matter how you cut it.

Photo a day you say?

I couldn't pick one. I won't post for five days.

I was on the way home from work, saw this sunset building up, and rushed to get the camera. I wish I was someplace other than my crappy driveway. It was all over and done very quickly. I grabbed what shots I could.
