WTH, that is freaking stupid man! I agree with you Raticus. We even had a fire start near Katy. It's crazy!

How do you know for sure that they did this on purpose? It's not that I doubt you man, but I just can't believe that any fire agency would be dumb enough to start a training fire out by a major highway, in an old rotted fire trap like that, with the fire hazard the way it is right now.

That freakin' blows my mind!

I understand, I feel the same! Not a smart thing to do at all around this tinder box!

I am guessing this was an exercise based on the number of kids in blue uniforms and the fact that there were several Texas Department of Forestry trucks around. Plus when I went by there this morning the old Saturn was gone as was the fence around the place. If a fire had started there from arson or whatever, I think that the fence would have been knocked down or torn up and not just completely gone. Plus a guy I work with told me that the city had wanted to "get rid of that eye sore for a long time".

I could be completely wrong but this the way I read it. I'll be sure to check the local paper to see if there is any mention of it there. Maybe we'll know for sure then

I'd sure like to know. And again, it's not that I'm doubting your assessment of this as much as I'm bewildered and sitting here "jaw dropped" to think that any agency, state or local, would intentionally start a fire, that big, in that location, in these conditions.

I'd say it would be time to re-evaluate who is leading the charge in the cavalry!

He might be right though. Firefighters are damn good at what they do so it may have very well been an exercise.

In the AF our firefighters will set old jets completely ablaze for training and it seems utterly out of control. But its out within an hour or so. They do know what they're doing.

On the other hand it could have been some teens that thought it'd be funny to set a beauty on fire, and trainees just happened to be around when they got the call.

I'm not saying that he's wrong. In fact my whole rant is based on the idea that I do believe what he's saying.

But we are sitting in a tender box right now. 12 homes burned yesterday near my town, and the authorities are hauling people to jail for lighting their bbq grills. I'm ok with that since everyone has been warned multiple times NOT to burn or light anything. And then they go set a house on fire for training? That would be irresponsible at best.

There's no shortage of serious fires here everyday to train new guys on. I'd be willing to bet that the situation you talked about was probably on a huge military base and likely not in the worst drought in history.

On a more positive note, my hat is off to ALL the firefighters right now! They have given beyond the call of duty in my area and I'm sure every where. Seriously, if anyone here is a firefighter, volunteer or paid, thanks for all you're doing to help! It is very much appreciated!

Unless you're the guy who set this house on fire.

I found out that this fire wasn't set as a training exercise by the FD today. I didn't see anything in the paper but a guy I work with knows the fire chief told me that the chief said that it wasn't set by them. He said that they aren't sure what the cause was. So that's good to know that people wouldn't be that foolish around here.

But, since the city has wanted that house gone for a long time, the firefighters just set up a perimeter around the place and let it burn it looked like to me. I don't think that they tried to stop it, just contain it until the house was gone.

Blah...

Well, at the very least it didn't burn down half the state, like it would in California.

If that is the house I think it was, I have been in there before while he was alive. His Nephew and I were friends and went to school together. I think the town was never happier than when we left. Your photos look like the same house.
