Abandoned house north of Waco

I managed to visit this abandoned house yesterday afternoon. It's actually pretty close to where I work. There were tons of hornets around this time of year.

I think this must have been some type of indoor scarecrow...

If so it doesn't work too well as the house has really suffered at the hands of scrapper and copper thieves

A few neat items laying around. Also lot of trash and of magazines and newspapers from the late 1980s. I think the metal box was part of an electric fence set up.

There were quite a few of these hand painted flowers on various doors

There was a nice view of I-35 from the upstairs

Great find! That house must have been beautiful when it was in use. Pity.

Yeah, it must have been pretty nice when it was lived in. Lots of space and a nice porch all around. I think an old person or persons lived there at the end since there were lots of items that elderly people would use.

I guess once they were gone the house was abandoned for some reason. It is pretty sad. There were still some birthday cards and things in there as well among the trash...

http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post0

that water heater definitely wasn't there and just out of curiosity was the mini shrine looking thing still there in the upstairs room with a walker? look at my pics youll see what im talking about...cuz that was a little creepy to walk into a room and find, got a little uneasy feeling from that one.

and yeah there was at least an elderly man with heart disease living there based on my findings and pictures in my post....my guess is he passed away from his heart issues and the family just never got rid of the house....but there was also an antique shop just outside the house next to the garage...most of the stuff was gone but still interesting.

Hey urbexinc - cool that you've been there too. I don't have enough access rights to see your thread, drat.

Well the walker is still there upstairs but don't remember a shrine. Just a lot of "Country Living" magazines from the late 80s in the closet. Any chance you can post a photo of the shrine here?

I wanted to see the inside of that old antique shop on the property but a swarm of hornets made me think I should wait until it's cooler ha!

Thanks for the link. That shrine sure is odd - with the tie and everything all laid out nice and neat! Creepy for sure, I think I would have remembered that so I don't think it was there. The walker and mattress were still there.

Funny that your photo #71 and my last photo are the same

Wow, that place must've been just lovely. A lot of character was put into it when it was built. Such a shame.

Ah, it was worth a shot. While I was there a guy and a gal who I assume was his daughter showed up to have a look around. He said he'd been there before and was interested in old houses.

Yes, bit more than pictured. I'm still working on my photos and will post in the very near future.

Well bad news on this one. It looks like the local fire departments burned this place down today as part of a fire fighting exercise. I really can't believe they would do that as dry as it's been around here. Seems like a pretty unsafe thing to do in my opinion. They are lucky that nothing else caught on fire!

I'll post a few photos of the carnage tonight after work.

Are you freakin' kidding me? Are you sure they did this as an exercise and not that someone set it on fire? If they did that as an exercise, I would question someones judgement on that. Sounds like a pretty damn stupid thing to do to me unless you guys are in a lot better shape than we're in... and I know you're not.

son of a....I was gonna stop there again on my way back from Dallas a couple weeks ago too and decided I'd catch it next trip instead...so much for that. Glad I got in when I did but very sad to see it go and that others couldn't enjoy it... definitely a stupid idea if it was deliberate especially considering the forest fires going on around here in Austin out in Bastrop county.

Here are some photos. I couldn't get too close to it yesterday but here is what I got. First a view from I-35:

This is an close as I could get from the other side once the fire was about out. Notice the trainees in their neat blue uniforms. There were also Dept. of Forestry trucks all around.

I went by again this morning before work (sorry for the low light photos) and it was still smoldering!

I still can't believe they did this with the fire danger all around here. They did manage to catch a small part of grass on the east side of the highway on fire it I noticed this morning.

Sorry you guys missed seeing this place. It was worth checking out...

How do you know for sure that they did this on purpose? It's not that I doubt you man, but I just can't believe that any fire agency would be dumb enough to start a training fire out by a major highway, in an old rotted fire trap like that, with the fire hazard the way it is right now.

That freakin' blows my mind!
