| | First site, might have to do it alone < on 8/30/2011 1:26 AM >
| | | I'm a little nervous over giving it a shot since the only P.O.E I can find is a busted out small window I can get though with just a little difficulty. Only thing is, I most likely have to go alone since the friends I have that are interested in exploring with me are a bit heavier set and can't make it through this window, so I've been told to do it myself. It's an old building but only abandoned for about two or three years, no more than five. I really want to explore it but should I just forget it and find another site I can go with people to? Or should I just suck it up, climb through the window and finally explore?

| | | It's much more exciting to breach a new place alone. Just be ready to bail right back out the window on the off chance you trip an alarm, haha.

| | | I guess that, if it hasn't been a long time that the place has been abandoned, the flooring should be in pretty good shape. My only concern about exploring alone would be, if the place is old enough to have possibly weak flooring, that no one would be around if I had an unfortunate accident. Cell phone to contact help when needed would be something on my "must have" list.

It's not, though. If it's been abandoned for less than a decade it's probably in a condition quite close to its active state.

| | | DON'T EXPLORE ALONE. Unless it's unbelievably safe place, like a warehouse made of pillows, don't go alone, especially if you're a beginner. It almost got me killed.

| | | ^ This. Buttram Manfist has spoken. Make one of your friends go with you and you look for another PoE for him from the inside. If nothing he'll be out there and closer if something goes down and you need a hand. I mean, if he's outside and you're inside you're not really alone, are you? And when he sees the cops roll up he can make a scene flapping his arms and making loud CA-CAW bird noises. You'll hear him and the cops will be talking to him first. Then you can sneak out the back and they'll be none the wiser.

| | | Well, I decided to go today, packed up some basics and scoped around. I was able to make it though the window but I didn't look around too long. This alarm that's ringing through the building has been going off since yesterday morning and it freaked me out a little. Opening a door from the inside...I think I may be this biggest idiot in the world for not thinking that. Wow. Thanks for the idea, I'll do that next time I go, this time with people and a little longer of a stay. I defiantly need a better camera too, shitty little digital things aren't going to do the job very well. All in all, not bad for a first run was definitely shaky though and a little scared.

| | | Until you know how that alarm is tripped, and if anyone responds to it, be damn careful. Maybe wait until it stops and poke around, check doors (like the one you opened) for sensors and the like.

| | | i prefer not to explore alone, because last time i went with a decent size group i fell through the floor and could have been seriously hurt and knocked out if i wasn't lucky on the way i landed. My group ran down and started checking me for broken bones and everything, and they half carried me out of the place. If i was alone i don't think i could have made it out, at least not for a good half hour as i was in a lot of pain and i was very stiff for a while. That being said, if you've gotta go alone, go for it, just make sure you know the risks, are prepared, and someone knows where you're goin and for how long.

| | | It's situational, as long as you use common sense you'll be fine.

| | | Later yesterday after I got back from poking around in the basement a friend of mine said he wouldn't mind going with me since he was in town. He was luckily able to squeeze though the window. We were able to explore all three floors and we found out why the alarm was going off, every system said it was "In Trouble" so I'm guessing there was a problem with the electricity or something, also all the Carbon Monoxide alarms were going off which at first worried us, but we decided that if either of us felt any type of headache or symptoms we would leave right away. They seemed to be going off in the whole building with the security alarms. We decided to leave after about an hour of poking around and getting a feel for the place, found some very interesting things but of course left it as it was. When we left I thought it would be easier to try leaving through a door but all the doors near us had what looked like an alarm sensor by the top (I don't know much about systems, I plan to study on that so I'm a little less clueless.) but we decided since we were leaving and all the alarms were going off anyway we might as well try it. Sure enough I popped open the door and nothing happened, we walked out like nothing happened and parted ways. It was a lot of fun but it shows me that it's better to have a partner, and to have a small knowledge of security systems and how they work.

Yea the shitty places are. The good places usually require some work to get in. Climbing, making an entrance, etc.

Than, by that standard, the good places are alarmed and have live vid feds.
