| | | Hey, just moved to Waco by way of San Francisco. Mainly did bunker searching out there. I'm a pro photographer and would love to get some shots of some local stuff. Anybody in Waco on here?

| | | I grew up in San Antonio so Texas is home to me. I was sick of San Francisco and California. Only parts I liked were the wild areas. People are pretentious and fake. Didn't mind the heat here growing up, don't mind it now. It's nice to get out and sweat, makes you feel alive. Besides, we're spoiled Americans and have air conditioning. I've lived in lots of places and California was the worst. Lived for a year and a half in Ventura too. It has the nicest scenery (Michigan is just as nice) but I need more than pretty looking stuff. Need good people to share it with. Got to know a lot of people out there and most thought I wasn't worth the time since there might be something they would miss out on somewhere else. I'm just bitter about it. Remembering living for there for two years feels like it was a dream and then it was over. I know most people don't feel this way and to talk bad about San Francisco people can't understand it and get pissed off. There's plenty of adventure and life to be had around Texas, it just doesn't come as easy as in SF and CA so it makes it all the more worth while.

I like visiting California. But wouldn't give you 2 cents and a bucket of shit to live there. I was in San Fran a couple of years ago to visit Alcatraz. That's one hella cool place. But to live there? Shit no. As for people in Waco, yes, there are a couple. One guy, MIM-14, is active on here and I think he is from some where around that area. You'd have to check with him to be certain.

| | | I've visited California many times over the years and I for one absolutely love it. I'd GLADLY move there from this 175-degree hellhole of ultra-conservative nonsense in a New York second, were it not for my ex-wife and son ensconced here in the DFW area.

| | | Hi Slothenstein, I am pretty close to Waco. Welcome back to Texas. My mom and brother live in the Bay Area so I go out there to visit pretty often. I was just out there in June as a matter of fact. I made the "death march" hike up Hill 88 in the Headlands to take photos of the old Nike Control site there (see my avatar), but that's another story... Anyway, I haven't done much exploring actually in Waco, just near and around it. I'd love to check out the old Goodyear plant in the north part of town sometime. Looks pretty interesting but I'm not sure how accessable it is. Maybe when it cools down some! [last edit 8/21/2011 7:55 PM by MIM-14 - edited 1 times]

If you find yourself missing "pretentious and fake" it is only a short drive to Dallas! A couple of hours at Northpark or Galleria should give you a fix.

Great! When it gets cooler would be much better. Black camera bodies don't like this much heat.

| | | Welcome back to Texas. Unfortunately the UE crown jewel of Waco WAS the General Tire Plant. I think that's what MIM-14 was referring to. Unfortunately, it appears to be under renovation and perhaps the only original part of the campus is the red brick smokestack. I drove by there last week and there's all sorts of construction going on.

Ah, thanks RevSM. I did mean the General Tire Plant of course, thanks for the correction! The heat must have gotten to me when I posted that Bummer that there is some much construction going on there, I haven't driven by in a long time. There are some other interesting looking buildings close by in that part of town too as I recall. Nothing as grand as the tire plant however!

However, I think that at least once, the Austin and DFW groups should meet up. In Waco.

Awesome! Also, thought I would share a little video I made of one of the bunkers I explored. Here's the blog post with photos and video http://wtkphotogra.../hiddenbunkertour/ Unfortunately the park service thought it was time to make this place unexplorable by filling the entrance with some crazy foam that the DoD uses. Glad I got to get in there several times before that happened.
