Yes, but you should be able to post a sign "Enter at your own risk we are not liable etc."

| | | As a quick line from someone who deals alot, and I mean alot with lawsuits, signs dont mean shit! You can have someone on your property without your knowledge with every sign in the world posted, and if they get hurt, they will sue and they will usually win. Hell even if you have someone actually sign a waiver, and then they get hurt, chances are they will find a lawyer who will in turn help them to sue..............

| | | As much fun as it to explore abandonments, if it were my neighborhood, I would rather see someone take "adverse possession" and keep the house up than to see it rot. I think his neighbors are just envious (and perhaps racist), but the guy has a decent looking car and doesn't come across as a gangster. His neighbors need to get over it. He needs to introduce himself and explain it.

You can post whatever sign you want, doesn't mean shit, the law is not on your side. And you are still on the hook for the cleanup of toxic chemicals leftover from the original owner and you need to take reasonable measures to secure the facility, a sign is not enough. Hell even if you secure it and dozens of people are still getting in you are still liable. You still need thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars for the lawyer and legal fees when someone tries to sue you or you try and sue the original owners for the cleanup costs.

| | | Here is some more recent glop from this case. No wonder the guy was standoffish, as this article from yesterday says the neighbors came over en masse and told him he didn't belong there. And if this reporter is right, he has some utilities on now. http://www.shrevep...into-340-000-house

| | | ^awesome update, this guy sounds totally reasonable. Hell he was looking into BUYING it at first and just struck google-gold stumbling on that law it seems. All the villagers, er, neighbors showing up saying all that 'you don't belong here(boy)' shit reminds me of a mob with pitch forks and torches going after Frankenstein. What a bunch of redneck pricks. Sounds like he's really gonna put the work into the place to get it fixed up. I hope he gets to keep it, it would be sad if he put a lot of work and money into it and lost it. All the same, he doesn't sound like he is broke at all if he's wanted to buy it in the first place and still wants to make an offer if the owner did magically appear. Bet with all this publicity he could find a lawyer to help him with any future problems for free too.

Eh, what's he gonna do? The police are watching him like a hawk and he knows it, he knows if he so much as laid a finger on me or said the wrong thing in a loud enough voice and the cops would be all over him for 'assualt' and drag him out of the house.
|
He's already been given hell over this, he is a smart man, the homeowners assoc. was refusing to allow him any visitors! That's just wrong! He only did what anyone, in there right mind and with the right knowledge would have done in the same situation. I know that I'll be on the look out for my next home! He was interviewed on the news; he is very well spoken and educated, drives a decent car...I say Bravo, job well done. Now, can ya tell me exactly how to go about this?

I have no doubt that is part (a major part) of the neighbors reaction, but I also have no doubt they'd be jealous anyway, after watching them being interviewed on the news. One woman flat out said she was upset because she had to pay her mortgage! Nobody forced her to sign that contract!
