My g/f called me at noon or so, and woke me up. And I immediately tried to explain to her how "arse" and "arson" and "arse-ing" are related. Apparently it didn't make as much sense as I thought it did, cuz she was like "drink some coffee, and call me back in 15 mins".

Oh, and K8, try separating what you're saying into paragraphs of like-thoughts. That way people won't see a HUGE block of text and just ignore it outright. Cheers.

Its been a year since the original post but it's still helpful. I have been 'Urban Exploring' since the 1980's and was hoping to find some new places by joining this site.
I'm not a huge fan of other humans because so many of them are complete jerks. The idea of having to go through them to get ideas for new places to explore depresses me.
I am not looking forward to kissing some ass in order to get my adventure on.
The Data Base was very disappointing but at least now I know why.

well, let's dissect your post and deal with this like a mature sign then

:

Its been a year since the original post but it's still helpful.
-well, okay. that is nice, I guess.

I have been 'Urban Exploring' since the 1980's and was hoping to find some new places by joining this site.
-urban exploring does not need quotation marks any more than my alias does
-dropping the time bomb makes you seem like you're rooting for some 'l33t street cred' (<--note proper use of quotations, for reference)
-If you've been exploring for over 20 years I'd hope to hell you knew where some fucking locations were. If you can't find any new ones on this site maybe a) wow, you are l33t!!! you found them all!!! b) nobody wants to share with you because you're probably a tool or a cop. or a tool.

I'm not a huge fan of other humans because so many of them are complete jerks.
-and yet you are surprised that you aren't being embraced with open arms
-clearly stating you dislike people isn't going to make them nicer to you

The idea of having to go through them to get ideas for new places to explore depresses me.
-again, if you need new places to explore you must be doing something wrong
-depression is a serious illness that can only be diagnosed and cured by a medical professional. I suggest you seek one immediately if you have the slightest inclination that you are unwell

I am not looking forward to kissing some ass in order to get my adventure on.
-nobody asked you to, but kissing ass and being a decent human being are not the same thing. You don't seem to understand that, however....

The Data Base was very disappointing but at least now I know why.
-if you only signed up for the database, you are EXACTLY the kind of person the database doesn't get filled BECAUSE OF
-the database is incomplete, and if you hadn't have been such a complete douche, after some time here you likely would become friends with locals who DO know all the good locations - not that you should need them, with your l33t exploring past. 20+ years and all.
- I'm not sure how anything you've seen thus far depicts why the database isn't complete, but if you'd like to yet again drop the 'people are jerks' line go right ahead. I'm sure it will get people to give you locations like there's no tomorrow.

since this thread is meant to be educational, I suggest all further posts directed towards me be sent in pm and dealt with privately so as not to detract from the point any further. Welcome to UER and enjoy your stay, however long it may be.

With the trend for abandoned locations to burn, become vandalized or be boarded up again, many people don't use the database for adding locations. If a location is well known and frequented by others then could be in the database and people may add photos to it.

By comparison if a location is not well known and pristine then people are hesitant to share it with the world by adding it to the database. The same location, if posted in the forums, will be full member only with a good chance that the name and location will not be mentioned.

Your decision to exclude other humans to learn about other locations (aka word of mouth and exploring with someone else) leaves you with nothing but the database and whatever you can find in the forums.

That same decision leaves you without anyone to vouch for you in the event you wish to gain full membership and see more locations.

It's not about kissing some ass as you put it, it is about networking and becoming known to others so that they may trust you with their precious locations (not that we 'own' them, but that we would rather not see them trashed).

Now you should understand why the database is disappointing to new people - we simply can't have a free buffet with all you can eat locations. The scrappers, drunken teens and graffiti artists would have a field day.

That makes sense. Thanks for the mature, informative reply. I don't believe all people are jerks, just too many of them. I realize also that the people that behave like jerks may not be like that all the time (myself included). I do have some hope for human kind to show empathy. If anyone took my fist comment personally then I apologize.

I've found that getting off on the right foot on UE by joining in discussions, starting new semi-relevant threads, and posting my photos has gotten me an unexpectedly warm welcome here. In my first few weeks here, I had about half a dozen people in my area PM me to say hi, ask me questions about places I've been, and offer me new locations to explore, without me even having to ask. I now have a handful of cool places to check out come fall when it's not a bazillion freaking degrees out and the summer overgrowth isn't swallowing everything, and not once did I have to go "O HAI I'M A N00B PLZ GIVE ME LOCATIONS KTHNX."

Basically, I think if you tread carefully and are polite instead of jumping right to begging for locations (and I'm just speaking in general, not about any specific member), people will warm up to you quickly here and will be more willing to share. Or maybe it's just because I have a vagina. YMMV.

I know too. The data access is poor for newbies. There's no pattern to being 'elevated', it just seems like there are mindless children on this site anymore. I even donated money and still got nowhere, posted and got nowhere. So I'm networking elsewhere with a much more mature group. Wish you newbies luck with this site, will check back next year.

Hmm, lets take a look at why things aren't working out well for you.

*reviews your posting history*

Prognosis: 53 year old armchair explorer.

Pics????
Locations????
Damn, thought I knew all the sights in Richmond.....
and I don't know ANY of these...

- The funniest thing about this one is that they POSTED THE NAMES of 9 out of 10 of the sites they mentioned, which you are referring to. What do you want, fucking gps coordinates and written directions?

Hey, howcome no posts on where you guys got to visit?
I couldn't make it, major surgery has me housebound.

- self explanatory

Went 'mapquesting' across the area and found a whole bunch of similar sites to explore by water! Thanks for the idea! Avoid property posted with 'no trespassing' at all costs! There are fewer conflicts on 'islands'.

Avoid WHAT again? So much fail....

Has anyone been over to Camp Peary?
Heard it is mostly CIA and high security. Know people who have been over to the shore in the middle of the night with no trouble. But hear munitions most of the days from there. Any poop?

- Ahh, so you're asking about Camp Peary, the CIA TRAINING GROUNDS. Makes sense now why you heed the no tresspassing signs. But then you ask about anyone knowing the "specific legal perimeter by water".
You think people go do a hydrological study in their spare time or something? Next to the CIA TRAINING area? or that they'd post it to you if they had? Really?

It's just the one building to the right road.....
but the interesting part is to the left road....but the fence
says it's federal. Would like to know what's there.

- more asking other people about federal property on a public forum. You want to know, go explore it yourself!

Chris, kayaks can go on top of the car, and you don't need to recruit anyone else's help. I'd love to go on my own, (lodge), not taking a chance (like bigpoppag), of going with anyone but my self and wife for awhile. if you don't mind emailing some kind of clue to the location? i'm not on here enough for you to pm to me. i have two kayaks, i'm sure you can rent some for a day. i haven't checked out 'peace frogs' to see if they rent or sell kayaks. rental might work better for ya. thanks.

- Guy from the response actually wanted to go exploring with you, and you turned him down.

yes, a deputy moved in a few doors down and is patrolling the site..........THAT'S why it's been difficult lately. I was wondering how the owner got cops there so quickly........(i'm a neighbor too)

darn, i was wondering if the infiltration site was dead...

- you posted all this in public? no wonder noone wants to give you info, if they don't want personal details splattered all over the web.
You mentioned on an earlier post you're "not on here enough to PM". So you just lurk and snag sites, but don't explore with people, but you make sure to ask people about federal property explorations which you "didn't have time" to explore? *cough*wimpedouton*cough*

r u guys nuts?
didn't you see the posts about the guys getting busted/arrested
at this site......?????????????????????????????????????????????

- prolly a good site =)

Area 51??????????? Why the heck would anyone want to go there?
It's only the final test site............. and closed hangar.....
The place is boring as hell......................................
the real interesting stuff is development, stuff gets to area 51
only after 20 years, 20 years after it was developed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, cuz the U2 was 20 years old when they were facilitating it there, as well as most of the other stuff right? Hell, you wanna explore CAMP PEARY, why can't they wanna explore area 51?

my fingers type faster than my brain...

- no doubt the truth.

is there an urban exploration that isn't a b&e ????????
tell me where anyone on this site get's permission ???????

- .... WAT? -_____-

So the people on this site are just mindless children? seems like you fit right in.
