Reverse Drain Update

So just a bland update on the drain they're building literally next door to my house... I mostly just wanted to practice long exposures at night, so feel free to critique.

1. Here's where we left off.

2. It's all buried now.

3. However, they are tearing up the road on the other side and it keeps on going, it's going to be at least an 1/8th mile as is, if they continue it it'll go a ways

4. Quite wide and deep

5. Old meets new

5a. Goes back a ways too

6. Me

7. Beasts of burden at rest

Last one is the best.

Is it shooting automatic? The ISO is too high! Reverse draining is cool, they've been laying new storm drains all over campus here.

I had it on manual, they're all F3.3 ISO200 for either 6, 8, or 16 seconds. I'll head out tonight and try it on ISO 100 or so, y camera goes down to 45, I think

i wouldnt worry about the ISO so much as the length of exposure - choose a smaller f/stop for 8-10 seconds, the place looks way too lit up for that long of an exposure with a wide aperture. also - use mirror lock up if you have it - IE a delay on the shutter so that you arent getting any camera shake from the mirror coming up to expose the sensor -

I wish my camera was that nice, haha. 3.3 is as small as it gets. It can go from 3.3 to 7.8 I think.

You'll want to tone down the exposure then. Try 2 or 3 seconds at F/3.3. Can you manually focus?

Usually bright scenes like that with that long of exposure, I need to shoot at least F/32.

Yeah I have some degree of manual focus. I'll go monkey around some more there tonight, I need to actually get down in there and get some shots of it up close, as well as get the old drain they're ripping out. I'll try something like ISO 100 F3.3 for 2 or 3 seconds in the same spot and see how it turns out.

If you have a problem getting it to focus, just shine a bright flashlight on whatever you're trying to focus and that should work. And always set the timer or use a remote on night shots, that way there's no chance of a camera bump.

Hopefully this isn't redundant info! And btw, good shots for the first time!

Just got some more in for ya.

1. They're actually getting this thing built pretty dang quick.

2. It's also quite large, and it looks like they are intending it to go around the corner.

3. To go another 1/8 mile or so and replace this beautiful, yet outdated, storm canal.

4. Beasts of Burden

5. Crane

6. Dunno why but I love excavators

7. King of the hill!
