| | How to relax before exploring? < on 6/28/2011 4:18 PM >
| | | Does anyone else get nervous or anxious before a big explore? I know I do. How do you combat the fear of getting caught, running into people, getting lost, etc.?

| | | Alcohol, lots of alcohol Or just relax and realize that the worst that might happen will probably be a $69 ticket.

| | | Smoke a cig when I arrive at the location. I usually have coffee jitters combined with excitement jitters when I first get there, but I get over it after a little while. Once you have a lot of explores under your belt, you don't even get nervous anymore.

if it was only a $69 ticket in the Northeast I would be getting up a lot later on the weekends and just park my car on the front lawn of locations

This isn't a support group. If anything, those are reasons I like it in the first place, especially getting lost.

+1! And even though I know this kid was just cracking jokes for attention, getting drunk before exploring is obviously asking for disaster.
As Mr_Fiend also mentioned, the thrill of feeling those fears is part of what makes UE exciting for me.

| | | idk why this thread is so full of dick The time I was most nervous, we did a factory at about 2 am in the middle of a bad end of town very close to a hospital - quite a bit of foot traffic through here during the day but we weren't expecting it at night - so while we were creeping down an alleyway about to park the car in a lot not too far from the location, this shady mutha fugga pops out from between two buildings and crosses the lane. We nearly ran him over. Scared the fucking shit out of both of us. After that, I wasn't nervous for the rest of the explore. Every building since then I remember that happening and laugh and just don't feel as nervous anymore. Maybe having something break your nerves on the way to a location will help?

| | | Or just relax and realize that the worst that might happen will probably be a $69 ticket. The last explore I did a federal police officer (not a security guard) said that he charges anyone going in or our of the vacant buildings. And it's a federal charge which means you have a 95% chance of being found guilty with a lot more to worry about than a payable fine. [last edit 6/28/2011 7:04 PM by angrygocart - edited 1 times]

He's full of shit - fuckem. Might be legit for that particular location - but besides that... If it's not federal land or under federal jurisdiction.... You're not going to get felony trespassing charges brought up for poking around some everyday abandoned factory / house / whatever.

| | | I just walk in tall, I don't care about the police, when I hear them radio someone to my location I just pull up a chair, pour myself some water and wait for them... It helps if you announce that you are alone and unarmed.
