| | | I got harassed by the cops a week or three ago, and I wasn't even UE'ing. I was out walking through the town, going alongside canals, occasionally looking into pipes to see if they had potential, but otherwise just walking. I go to cross a not-too-busy four-lane road, look both ways, and run across. The cop car that was just rounding the corner must've seen me and figured I was running from them. I return to a walking speed once on the opposite sidewalk, and all of a sudden the car pulls in front of me and cuts me off. Five minutes later, I'm sitting on the ground, they're running my ID, and a corral of six to eight cars worth of cops are questioning me. They couldn't fathom the idea that I was out walking just for fun - like an individual of my particular demographic just had to be up to something. They basically accused me of breaking into houses, and I told them that my neighbor's house had been broken into a few days prior. Then they asked for a DNA cheek swab, which I declined to give (that's only gonna be used to convict me of a crime, or identify my mangled corpse - neither will help me). They told me not to walk along the canals in the future (yeah right, fuck them, public property), double-questioned me about my attire (it's evidently suspicious to wear black in broad daylight), and finally let me go. Some paranoid old lady probably called the cops on me - I guess I'm just scary-looking enough to warrant that. I'm fairly angry about the whole thing. In conclusion, fuck da police.

| | | A diverse group of us had a bizarre experience while walking in a city PARK. This park has a creek running through it, we were wading the creek. As were returning to our cars, we noticed a helicopter overhead. One of the guys said "That is a police helicopter". It circled the area and I said "They are looking for someone". As they circled tightly over us, my friend said "Yeah, they are looking for US". We left the creek and headed directly to our cars. Four officers stepped out from behind trees with guns drawn (but not pointed at us). They ordered us to drop out gear, to walk forward, then to drop to our knees and place our hands on our heads. They patted us down and questioned us as to why we were wading in the creek, which they seemed to view as very odd behavior. I mentioned we were a diverse group; I am a white male 52, my friends/neighbors are both males 27 and 12. The other two with us were a 24 year old male and his 22 year old girlfriend. Most people would probably assume we were a family. We were sweaty, wet from the creek and probably ratty looking, but certainly didn't look like gangstas. It turns out that someone had fired a gun into a house near the park. The police questioned us a lot about having firearms (we didn't), owning firearms and were very suspicious that one of the guys had a membership card to a gun range but claimed to own no guns (he rents them from the range when he goes shooting). The police were polite and professional. We were not charged with any crime. But I am still amazed that we became suspects only because we were exploring the creek.

| | | Hi guys, my first post at uer. I have three run-ins with police ill tell one story. I live in NW Indiana. I make regular trips to Gary to explore and get photos. The cool thing about gary is that you can walk right into most places. Ok... I was going to explore the Ambassador Apartments, I'd been there once but I left bc it was getting dark and my surefire flashlight surely would have been noticed from outside. So i returned a month later with my girlfriend and a new explorer (a friend of mine) When I go to Gary I either take the train and walk or park near City Methodist Church off of 5th Av. We parked near CMC. The sketchy part is walking many blocks through predominately black neighborhoods with my white friends. I don't feel in danger nor am I a racist but one can definitely feel the power of segregation there and its not a comfortable feeling. You can get some strange looks (probably bc we are 17-20). As we entered The Ambassador, a red 2011 Dodge Ram drove by (this was late 2010). And slowed down while passing, I was fairly certain it didnt see us enter but it may have seen us inside. It was hot and we immediately plunged into the depths of the basement. I got some flash photos and continued exploring. A few minutes later we heard a police siren blare just for a second or two right outside the building. We figuerd it wasnt for us but it still puts us on edge. Shorty after we heard footsteps above and i saw a flashlight shine down the stairs. I thought that there was no way the police came inside just t find some kids. We turned out our lights and stayed quietly in the dark until we were sure there was no one there. I heard two males talking then i heard the footsteps above and then nothing else we stayed in the dark for 10 more minutes then slowly and stealthy proceeded up the stairs. There was no one there. I assumed that it was other explorers. I asked if they wanted to go up, nobody did so we left when exiting driving by was the same dodge ram. I was feeling paranoid and we disappeared into the streets. We decided to get some ground floor pics at cmc and entered upon arriving we noticed a cherry picker and many portable generators around the grounds. i had no idea what was going on we got a few pics and slipped out. When leaving a saw the red dodge rm with a guy in police/ security style fatigues leaning against the truck bed. He was far to the left and no one else saw him so i whispered "Guy in blue uniform leaning against dodge ram at 10 oclock" no one looked the car was now ten feet in front of us. As we opened the doors I herd a car horn and turned around to see the red Ram driving up to us and a guy putting on a hat that said POLICE in the driver seat. He got out and started questioning us. At this point I could tell he wasnt gary PD he was 6'0 slender African- American with a mustache he was probaly in his mid to late 40s. I told him we were taking pictures and said it was for an art class. He asked what I had on me , because He could see my camera, a surefire holster, a 4D magllite and a small camelbak. I told him just some flashlights and a camera. He said he was going to take my camera and I asked what authority he had to do that, (I am now "shaking in my boots" thinking what if he is an off duty officer and he calls PD) He responds that he is going to take our license plate and report that we refused to cooperate with an officer. Just the way he said it made me feel safer, he sounded like a liar. We drove away after he left. A few weeks later I read in the newspaper that earlier that very day, part of the upcoming transformers movie was filmed in the church and I now believe he was movie security. But I still have no idea why he followed us around... Perhaps it was a series of coincidences...?
