So, i was thinking about going with someone. but we were wondering how close they watched it, if there were full time guards, if it were even possible, or just an overall bad idea... ect. I dont have full membership, so i cant see this info/location on here for myself. I wont be in Colorado much longer and that place has been calling my name since i got here. if anyone wants to help me out with this, they can send me a private message if they want. anything is appreciated.

There is not really security per se. It's more of a welcoming committee, waiting to give you a gift basket full of baked goods (made with pot butter!), warm hugs, and sweet smiles.

The police dogs are super cuddly, they sure do like to wrassle! Aye,the fuzzy scamps.

Walk-ins are always welcome. Have fun!

"Baked Goods"? I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE. Unfortunately, they must've been out when I went.

Funny story about Gates.

Back in the day, the front doors were wide open until someone fucked up and the place got a lot of unwanted media attention. Then the place got locked the fuck down. For quite a long time, there were two security guards. One must've been the purveyor of Warm Welcomes and Snacks.
The other threatened to shoot people.

Guess which one I had a run-in with. (hint: I didn't get snacks.)

Now, there's some unknown security company which, at any given time, may or may not be there in vehicles that may or may not be marked. They may or may not have snacks and they may or may not threaten to shoot you and call the police.

The place is also (kind of) watched by RTD security. RTD Security is provided by the lovely folks at Wackenhut.

I have some experience with Gates over past few years and I can say that there's pretty equal chances that you'll get in and it'll be fine, or you'll get horribly busted, possibly before you even jump the fence.

YMMV.

Thanks for info/advice.
I've seen a white van behind the fence a few times. I probably wont go. But.. who knows.

I ran in to a plate of cookies and a glass of milk... I think someone might have left them for Santa. I took them to the roof so that they would be easier to find.

Really though... spend some time watching the place and doing your research. There's few places you can't get in to with the proper amount of preparation.

I've been in there multiple times, and missed out on the cookies and bullets. I am kind of lucky, but I've gone on days like Sunday and days it wasn't Sunday I've gone under the cover of dark.

Once I was stuck in there for hours because the security guard literally hounded my steps and it took me forever to lose him. It was like a bugs bunny cartoon almost, I tell ya. Although I had the advantage because he seemed really shy about actually entering the building, for some reason. The first time I ran into him, I opened the door getting ready to leave and there are these car head lights, and I'm just standing there dumbfounded going, this is a fenced off area, what are car headlights doing here? Then I peeked over the door and saw this white SUVish car(I didn't really get a good luck because I nearly poop'd my pants, but it looked kind of like those RTD security vehicles) parked right next to the door with the door to the SUV open and the driver out somewhere. Needless to say I silently closed the door and camped it out, whoever it was miraculously didn't notice, but circled the building for hours, ominously always being near me until a little before 12 when I either lost him or he lost interest and left. I could hear the engine of his car, in areas I was in that didn't even have windows. I thought I was screwed, and the entire time I wasn't exactly sure if it was the same guy circling the building or if there were multiple guards, it seems more probable there were multiple, because that fucker got around pretty fast. I mean I didn't have to deal with fences and stuff to get to the other side of the goddamn building.

As for RTD security, I'm not sure they have enough jurisdiction to make arrests, but they'l probably insist on apprehending you long enough for real police to show up and arrest you, and they like parking on that parking lot near the lightrail stop and that side of the building. I'd rather run from those guys than real police, but I never really looked up the legalities behind it. I wonder if you actually can be charged for fleeing with fake RTD cops, I mean I'm sure you can but it'l be interesting to get it verified. I'm not exactly sure what they are allowed or not allowed to do especially if you're not even on RTD property although I'm sure they worked something out with whoever is in charge of Gates now.

I always kind of wondered if there was some sort of silent alarm in there, but I always figured running an alarm would consequently require electricity and why would they bother with electricity with that place even for a separate seldom used grid or something. Even if they did, that place is large enough to evade a cop or two.

I've been meaning to go back there actually. It's really a great place. It's real spooky and has a history, plus there are some pretty cool tags on the roof.

I say: DO IT! Gates is well worth the risk, and if shit does hit the fan, run like fuck(Not inside). It's a big huge building and they have a hard time keeping it 100% non legit entrance free.

as far as i know, RTD has a much right to be on the other side of the fence as you do. they can hang out in the parking lot near the power plant as it's their turf but other than that they can't chase you.

they can however see you enter/run about inside and they like to call police/gates security to come and get you. on that note, i have it from a fairly reliable source that the cops do not like to enter the building even if they're called...they too would much rather wait for you to walk out and into their waiting squad cars.

also i think it's worth mentioning that the light rail drivers will call you in if they see you...service stops around 2am and starts again around 4.

The bottom line is be smart and dedicated. I showed up around 530 in the morning and stayed till about noon. I didn't see any security the day I was there, but that's not to say that they aren't there. There's also still asbestos removal going on and those guys have strange schedules. Sometimes they are there and sometimes they aren't.

I was there one day just waling around on the safe side of the fence when the asbestos removal guys where there and stopped two kids from climbing the fence in the middle of the day to check it out. I recommended a early morning approach... it's safer... and you have much better light.

Go right now in the middle of a blizzard. Like the Spanish Inquisition, no one will expect it.

Also,
High speed pursuit in the snow/ice = Not happening.

If there are Alaskan guards stationed there, just remember they only have cone vision, and they are easily fooled by card board boxes. If they are alerted to your presence, just run like fuck (which is half the speed of light) until they lose interest or your radar clears up.

Good luck mate.

Yeah but the problem with going when its snowy is that there will be footprints where ever you go. im sure if security pulls up they'll be wondering about the footprints that magically disappear at the side of the building.

You could really throw them off the trail, and do a handstand all the way into the building. They'll have no idea what to do with hand prints in the ground.

I have an even better idea. Cut your feet off. No sleuth will be able to backtrace
a bloody stump trail, even if you do manage to goof somehow.

Late this past week on a weeknight there was indeed security in a beat up personal vehicle. I would say it was something like a silver toyota, but I can't be sure due to distance.

Wasn't there some mantra about leave only footprints?

The mantra was: leave nothing but footprints behind and take nothing but photos and incriminating evidence with you. If I recall correctly, it also mentioned something about poisonous Australian jellyfish.
