| | Gloves. < on 1/31/2011 12:25 AM >
| | | So, I've seen in a lot of pictures that people usually wear gloves while exploring, and sorry if this is already posted somewhere but i searched and nothing came up, but I was wondering what kind of gloves people wear for exploring. I would think something like fingerless biking gloves, but maybe theres something better.

| | | Cheap mechanic's gloves when someplace dirty, you can usually get a couple pairs for about $10 at Home Depot (I usually get the Firm Grip ones), they'll let you still work the controls on the camera, and when they get too filthy, just throw 'em away. But- they don't keep your hands warm. For keeping warm, I use gloves/mittens designed for bow hunters. They're fingerless gloves with a flap that you can flip down to cover your fingertips to keep warm. Warmest gloves I've ever had, and when I need to hit the smaller buttons on my camera, I just open the flaps.

| | | If this wasn't the rookie forum, I might post iron gauntlets or something similarly pointless. Personally, if I'm wearing gloves they're usually mountain biking ones, as that's what I already have lying around. I'll wear full-fingered ones, though, not fingerless.

| | | I've used and destroyed zillions of pairs of gloves, these can be destroyed too but they outlast everything else I've tried. Very minimal loss of dexterity, can still operate all camera functions while providing superior grip. Can't beat the price and seriously if you want a tough glove that you can still pick your nose with, this is it. http://www.amazon....=1296437607&sr=8-3 They aren't warm though

| | | Super cheapo leather work gloves from Home Depot or whatever. I've never had a need for finger dexterity. Just take a glove off when you're playing with the camera.

| | | relatively good quality motocross gloves that have grip pads on the inside, and rubber padding on the outside/knuckles... usually a bit more then $10, but you get better quality and sometimes, a bit warmer depending waht you get... I have THOR MX gloves, that I use for downhill mountain biking. these arent mine, but they are the same brand.. mine are blue they are VERY useful for exploring, make climbing stuff very easy, are about 80% in penetrable to barbed wire, of course the pointed ends will still hurt to grab onto some... but it wont stab into your hand or anything like that. and they make handling my camera and gear a sinch! and if they get dirty, they are machine wash safe [last edit 1/31/2011 2:18 AM by The Seeker - edited 1 times]

| | | Hmm, looks like I'm gonna need two different pairs of gloves, something like the nose-picking gloves for the warmer times of the year an some bow hunter gloves for the colder times of the year. I already have some finger less biking gloves but they ain't warm and easily penetrated. Now where could I get me some fine bow hunter gloves?

Mass? Ocean State Joblot SUG gloves, leather, tan or black (not the cheap polyester kind) $5 or $8 bucks a pair depending on chain. Can't beat them for the price. I buy them 3-5 pairs at a time when I lose them. I think I still have 4/5 pairs I bought for this summer so pretty good this year.

| | | The gloves I use are military flight gloves. They have leather palms and fingers to keep your hands protected. They aren't very think so you still have dexterity but somehow they are still very warm in the winter. But don't make your hands sweat a lot in the summer. Don't ask me how they work but one of my old team leaders, that used to be a crew chief on Blackhawks, turned me onto them my first tour. Since then I haven't used anything else. They might be a little pricey depending on how much shopping around you do, but I've never just killed a pair either. Only reason I have multiple pairs is I've got green ones for when I'm doing military stuff and a black pair for my civilian adventures.

| | | i use a pair of wells lamont gloves. i tried to find them on the site for a pic. but i couldn't. most of their stuff is like farming and work gloves. but i have this pair i got when i was doing security at the football stadium that are nice thin, black and sleek looking that work wonders for me. they always keep my hands from freezing but never had problems with sweating either. i may and try to find another pair and cut the tips off. just so it's easier to work my camera. and keep the uncut ones if i have to climb anything

| | | I support the use of nitrile-coated gloves for general use. Stab/cutproof gloves are neat, you can throw razor wire around with them on, but they run about $50 a pair. I got some Hexarmor ones for a project, and it's neat to watch needles and stuff turn off fabric.

| | | A decent pair of mechanic gloves for general use, and depending on the site, I've also found uses for surgical gloves and armored motorcycle riding gloves. Bloody hard to use a camera with the latter, though.

I'm typing this with my middle fingers. I love the smell of mold in the fall. |
