Row, row, fight the power (plant)

We are not deterred by rain. Or 40-odd degree weather. That much was clear in the sheer size of the group. But what do you do with a group of 12? (Or was it 13?)

You do the logical thing. Infiltrate the power plant.

The power plant spans several levels, and is occasionally used for parties or concerts. For obvious reasons, those people are allowed only on the main level.

The lower levels get darker the further you get from the staircases. They become a small maze of darkened corners, old machinery, holes in the floor, and...cases of Red Bull. Yes. Really.

There is some graffiti, mainly on the lower levels and the upper office area, as well as in the bathrooms on the main floor. Yes, the bathrooms were gross.

It seems they keep the place fairly clean, at least on the main floor...barring the bathroom. There is broken glass scattered on all the levels, as well as beer bottles abound on the lower levels. Why couldn't we have found beer instead of Red Bull?

This place seems to be Austin's most-known abandonment - and probably one of the larger ones within the city.

I'm surprised you didn't see any Hipsters hanging out in there...

I doubt their Mac Books would get a Wi-Fi signal anyways.

Great pictures though, keep up the good work!

Nice location and pics. Thanks for posting. I love power plants. Too bad most of the machinery is gone.

I think most of the machinery that's left is probably vital to the building in some way, like the wall-mounted breaker boxes. Either that, or they just decided it wasn't worth the hassle to move 'em.

Oh, and if any of the full members that were there could recommend me for FM status, that would be awesome.

It was a good ol time, and the red bull was a nice touch. It was such a big place I didn't get to see the bottom floor before we rounded up and left. Darn. Maybe next time. Did get some cool roof pictures though.

Yeah, I posted that right before I got FM.

I wish I'd gotten up onto the rood, or into the attic area BurntBulb found. Maybe next time.

Love that there are so many bathroom pics on uer. Maybe some fancy scholar types could look into the psychology behind it and determine something smart sounding, like perhaps we gravitate towards that what we know, or something such. More realistically speaking, I guess everybody's gotta shit.

In related news... I'm going to invent toilets that can handle paper towel and other unmentionable items and make millions. Millions I say.

Very nice.

I'd like to get back in there some time. I didn't get very good pictures the first time. One of these days I'm going to actually get to another one of these meet-ups when it falls on a day that I've not already booked.

Also, I believe that most people take pictures of restrooms simply because parts of some abandonments are sparse in the way of equipment or interesting objects left behind. So after looking at several bare concrete walls you see a wonderful glistening porcelain work of art... and snap a shop for posterity.

Anyway, that's my take on the subject.

Not much of an attic to begin with FearIn... maybe ladder access with roof access in about 2 feet. Nightstlker was with me when we found it.

I'm perfectly fine, just as this bulb doesn't BZZT!

Here is what i got that day (Un-edited Pics(and lots of them))
[ i use a "shoot to the right" technique of deliberate over exposure, so some of these will be really bright, it is just useful for post-editing. It gives you more digital information.]

Thanks. It was drizzling out on the roof, i was kinda worried about the water, because my camera is weatherproof but not the lens. It survived fine though. I like the haziness...

Video coming soon. Gotta edit out faces.
