The oldest section of the Palace Amusements, the Carousel House, dating back to 1888, was demolished early this morning.

The move was seen as a pre-emptive strike by Boardwalk redevelopers Asbury Partners, to end recent renewed efforts by preservationists to save the building.

It's a completely needless waste, in my view, of one of America's oldest surviving amusement structures. With just a little bit of effort, it could easily have been dismantled, renovated and re-erected elsewhere in Asbury.

rip....

A sad day in the history of Asbury Park, wayward politicians showing yet again the transparent greed that seems to thrive in AP. I was inside Palace this Saturday. Took some friends through who had never been there. Even with all the "historical items" removed it was still amazing. The ferris wheel booth, collapsed mirror maze, and the oriental palace were still there in all of their faded glory....

seems like We'll be poring out a little liquor tonight for another fallen friend.

Jesus.
Everyone has a price. One of these days I'd love to see a developer who has a heart, or spine.

I've always loved this place, and wanted to one day take a trip from Ontario down to Jersey to check this place out. Guess not.

I feel sick. This world is a very very ugly place.
Shallow.

Dido to the trip down from Ontario. I would have made it to have a look around, would have been totally worth it.

Ironically, at least someone is doing SOMETHING with this shitty beachfront after many many year. These building will never fulfill their original purpose, no matter how much resto is done. Such is life.

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.

I thought the Carousel House is across the street from that building

There were two. The one across the street is part of the Casino.

The original one was in Palace, it was the oldest part of the building.
