NOLA didn't seem too rapey to me. I foot toured around there for a week.

Now Detroit on the other hand...

Living is easy with eyes closed.

There's a big difference between acting cognizant of a woman's safety, and being "sexist". And last time I checked, there was also a pretty big difference between pointing out the obvious, that a certain neighborhood is bad, and being "racist". Perhaps at 5'10', 125 lbs I'm not quite adequate in the 'splorin world, according to the implicated stats of the average UER woman. So, yeah. Coming from a female who rocks heels and handbags with the best of them, I'd much rather be spending my time with a gentleman concerned about my safety than a frat boy who knows no better than to treat me as if I were one of his male buddies. ...In the name of gender equality, of course. If anything, UER women should be offended that some dude thinks the majority of them are probably all sloth linebackers. Dunno. I'm not a UER member, so I guess I really don't represent the majority; but my boyfriend has been a member for several years, and he knows that just because a woman loves exploring and can do it as well as him, she still enjoys being treated like a lady. So...BecomeTheChange, on behalf of pretty girls, I'd like to say thanks and goodonya.

Jesus Christ. I "rock heels and handbags" too but that doesn't mean I'm going to get raped. And he should be concerned for EVERYONE'S safety if the neighborhood is THAT bad...not just women.
"On behalf of pretty girls"?
Gag me.
My boyfriend isn't a frat boy who isn't concerned about my safety...he just respects me enough as an equal to know that I don't want to be left out of exploring because of my gender. We take care of and look out for each other...no one-sided bullshit over here.
But whatever. I guess you're just prettier than me and more susceptible to rape.

So technically as a human being capable of RAPE maybe the boys should be watching out too.

I'm ok with being raped by a girl in an abandoned building. I'd take one for the team. That's just how I am.

Please don't take this wrong way, but I don't think its really a good idea to bring women to places like this, just for safety reasons. Not saying that women can't hold their own or explore as good as men, but I think you see what I'm getting at.

If that was the case I'd never explore. Being a woman and all.

I say if you want to be safe (no matter what is between your legs) bring at least 4 peeps, a cell phone, and mace. Or pepper spray. Or whatever floats your boat and is legal (or possibly non-legal). Let's face it - you're breaking the law already, might as well be prepared. When I'm in dicey places I've got a knife, pepper spray, my plastic spikey keychain, or whatever else I need to protect myself in my hand. Is it annoying? Yeah, but w/e. It's not gonna help if you aren't ready.

Wow, sexist AND racist! I love it!

I'd be willing to bet the average female on UER is bigger (size/weight) than the average male on UER.

Oh screw you Hoolie LOL... *jk*

Also I forgot to mention - been exploring by myself and usually get split up from the "team" when I go, so I've encountered bums, random ppl, homeless kids, etc. Am I leery? Yeah....often I wonder if the tagger trying to talk to me or give me a tip is some crazy perv about to knock me on the back of the head. But you use common sense, don't go off where others can't see you, and that's that.

There is something to be said about being female and not seeming to be a threat to people. I've had a bum be very pissed that my male friend is in an abandonment, then I come out the window and the whole situation turns around.

I have to say that if a person is about to rape a female they'd likely be hurting a male (in some other fashion most likely).

Bottom line: it's a good idea for people to go in groups bigger than 2 in bad neighborhoods. But practically speaking, where are you going to find other people who are into this hobby LOL?

blah blah blah.

For anyone who is interested, I kayaked by this school this evening and to my surprise, they have started to demolish it. I'm not sure if it's going to be rebuilt as a school or another building but at this time is has been completely gutted to just the solid cement framing. Glad I explored this while I could.

Then why do you have a 1 year star?

my boyfriend has been a member for several years, and he knows that just because a woman loves exploring and can do it as well as him, she still enjoys being treated like a lady.

Yeah new hobby. Maybe something ladylike. Like knitting?

hey i sometimes bring my needles while exploring. Please dont hate on me ok?

Sometimes when i run into gang bangers they pull a gun and then i pull knitting needles! We usually end up knitting eachother sweaters to exchange instead....
