Finally got around to exploring Six Flags New Orleans!
Proud to report that there were no guards and (as far as I could tell) no hobos or drug dealers.
A huge wild dog did scare the shit out of me at one point while I was underneath a roller coaster though. He came splashing through some puddles and I took off running. Not sure if he was gonna lick me or try to eat me, haha.
We also got kind of got spooked because we heard a motorcycle (or two) on the opposite side of the park when we were exploring and we didn't stay much longer after that.
We only got around to exploring one side though, so we may go back to get the other at some point.
It was definitely surreal to walk around the park, as I used to go there all the time when I was in middle school/high school. I had season passes and I have many fond memories of when it was Jazzland, as well as when they turned it into Six Flags.

Tweety Bird berets

Not sure where these came from...

The Mega Zeph

The Jester

The stairs leading up to where people would board The Mega Zeph

Where the line formed for The Mega Zeph...also where the dog almost (maybe) ate me.

After seeing Toy Story 3, I felt EXTRA bad for this bear.

The steep climb up the beginning of The Mega Zeph

This dude somehow found his way out of the Mardi Gras-themed haunted house and ended up on the pavement.

That TV screen used to broadcast a fake news special about a Mardi Gras parade gone wrong for all the patrons waiting in line for the haunted house.

This guy hangs off the top of the haunted house and used to spit water at passing guests.

His now bionic arm freaked me out.

Still got his Mardi Gras mask on!

Who wants ice cream?

Delicious.

This was the little photo kiosk where guests could purchase pictures of themselves taken on The Mega Zeph.

Not much security nowadays.

lol

"Because I'm too cheap for roses"
Such a romantic!

Check out that water line.

If anybody wants to see these bigger/full scale, they're all up on my flickr here: http://www.flickr..../xshamethestrongx/

I peeked my head in the haunted house but it honestly looked like most of the place had been gutted out. But if I go back, I'll make sure to go in further and make sure :p

I'm jealous. Those are awesome shots. Great work.

...the wings on my shoes shrank now the moths won't eat my kidneys, when i shake my state capital it only yields 3 fairy napkins, but how do i know my banana slippers are like water boats because when the moon winks it burns my hamster punches, and that's how you get to llama school rowing your canoe backwards up main street when the front bumper falls off, do mermaids get to drink orange juice?

aww shucks! yeah hopefully its not gutted out but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. I've always been a sucker for the haunted house ride, no matter how cheezy and un-scary.. its still the best part of any theme park.

This one wasn't TOO scary if I remember correctly. It was a ride-through haunted house and you had a laser gun to shoot targets with throughout the ride (think Buzz Lightyear ride in Disney World).
But it was choked full of skeletons and voodoo-type things popping out at you and such. It was a fun ride for sure :]

Great set of pics ! I really enjoyed this tour...it must be so surreal to explore a place where it used to be so full of life and sounds...I think that makes these pics even more haunting...imagining screams and laughs

Thanks for sharing !!

Thanks!
Yeah, it was an odd feeling. Everything was so still. When the wind blew you could hear debris blowing around and gutters banging on buildings. Someone had shattered a box of light bulbs and the little metal parts and the glass were blowing around making a "tink tink tink" sound at one point and that was the only thing we could hear. It was pretty haunting.

I just logged in to post my own Six Flags thread, haha. Great pics, and it's nice to hear from someone who knows what the park was like when it was open.

Both times I've been this fella has been moved around, and here he is again in yet another position. Seems to be a favorite past time of Six Flags visitors these days. Last time my boyfriend stepped up to have his picture taken and instead got some nasty mosquito larva water that had collected in the crown dumped on his head. Highlight of the trip.

Haha, nice!
I tried to pick him up to get behind him and take a photo but as you said, tons of water poured out of the sides of him and onto my feet so I was like "Ehhhhh, maybe not."
Are you posting yours? When did you go?
