| | | Finally: Location DB Search < on 1/7/2010 9:37 PM >
| | | It took me 6 1/2 years, but I finally wrote a Location DB search feature. For now, it searches on a per-location level, but in the future it will be upgraded to search for specific images or comments or whatever. It can search by member, by text, or by distance from you. More criteria will be added as time allows (You are welcome to suggest criteria you'd like to search by in this post!) Check it out here: http://www.uer.ca/locations/search.asp Enjoy it! -av

| | | Squee! Good to see you're still surprising us with great features Av. I've been looking forward to this one for a while.
Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you. |

| | | *cough* ability to search your own PM's, not just the subject, but the body. If I have say 10 PM threads from a person. And some of them are 150 replies long. Finding a certain text string from one of them is hell.
But thank you for adding his feature. I know many people were looking forward to it. It might come in handy in the future. [last edit 1/8/2010 11:28 AM by trent - edited 2 times]

| | | If it is giving you wonky results (like it did for me), you need to adjust your latitude and longitude settings in your Profile. I'm surprised this feature wasn't available sooner, being ASP driven and all. Thank you. Edit: One suggestion... for those doing searches in anticipation of places to explore, it might be easier to have a drop-down listbox for items such as Accessibility and Status. For example one field that is of particular interest to me when I'm searching the DB, is I would like to exclude places that have been "demolished" (status). I'd also like to exclude "Difficult" (Accessibility) locations. The current search box combines all those fields. Maybe a drop-down listbox such as: Select <location> where <accessibility> <equals, not equals> <easy, difficult> select <location> where <status> <equals, not equals> <demolished, abandoned> Only a suggestion, the feature is very much appreciated. | | | Man I totally wanted this like 4 years ago. I forgot about it 3 years ago. When I was wanting the feature, I had specifically wanted it so that I could find abandoned theatres. Could a system in which abandoned sites can be classified by specific type be instituted? Of course also a way to allow this to be searched? I guess even a simple Commericial, Residential, Industrial, Institutional, Military, etc. categorization would be a start. Most people have strong interest in one type of location over others, and would make great use of something like this. [last edit 1/7/2010 11:33 PM by Stewie - edited 1 times]

| | | Yah I actually realized that after posting, I could search for the word theatre... as most theatres would have that word in their name. Sigh. I WANTED TO FEEL LIKE I WAS HELPING, OK

Download your archive as a text file, throw it into WordPad and CTRL+F your way to enlightenment. It's a bit of a cludge, but it works. Great work on the extra search feature Av! Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

Alrighty, I've added a ton of checkboxes throughout the search page. You can do inclusions and exclusions. For example, to exclude Demolished locations, simply check everything besides Demolished in the Status window. -av
