I think I'd like to contribute to this, but I guess I don't quite understand how everyone is making these designs? I'd make one up if I knew how everyone is doing it... this is my sort of thing.

If you don't know how people are doing it, it's probably not your sort of thing.

AV wanted help redesigning the look, but mentioned nothing about what program you all are using to make up your own - and show it off here... so then I'm assuming this has to do with some sort of computer/web design program? If that's the case, I cant help. If there is a program link I can go to to make a design, then maybe I can...
Either way, thanks !

For a mockup, try an image editing program. An example of a commonly available image editing program is Paint. Or, you know, photoshop/gimp

Then, you'll have to write some HTML and CSS. For this you'll require a text editor, so notepad will do fine. Although really, you should probably use emacs or vi since they have syntax highlighting.

Yeah, and you should totally sit on a chair made out of rusty needles while you do that. If you get any cuts, just have a rabid dog lick 'em.

(Vi and Emacs, are you fucking kidding me)

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

haha, Notepad++ would be better than Vi. Dreamweaver or the new Adobe program that anyone can pump out a website in (and it produces very clean HTML) would be better

maybe I'll tinker away in Photoshop and see what I can come up with.

Is there any way that we could get a topic reply notification email feature added to this site, whereby you could subscribe to threads of interest, and when those threads are replied to, an email is sent to your inbox? Most webforums offer this feature. It allows you to keep track of topics of interest throughout the day/week without constantly visiting the actual website (something that most of us are unable to do).

Also, smilies would be nice.

no.

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!

Well, hopefully that won't happen. But if I don't see a design that I think looks good (and that other people also like), we will have to simply keep the current design.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I haven't really seen a design that really makes me go "Wow!" yet, and I also have had absolutely no spare time to work on UER at all these days. I got a new job and they're sure keeping me busy.

I think Av wins the "Greatest Troll" contest, since he has managed to successfully keep this thread alive for four years.

This one, as designed by Wabbit.

I really like this one as well, because I like the current UER theme; it's easy to read and you know where everything is. That design doesn't depart too much from those two principles, but it gives the site a new look at the same time.
