I took an outing into Saanich today aboard my trusty steed and came back with a few nice shots.

Abandoned Airfield

This place used to be hopping but now the runway has been eaten by a gravel pit and its been sold to a developer. I know the old owner and camped here once. Now all that remains is a trailer full of broken airplane and a gutted hangar, used for a lean to. I think the plane remains are from an incident a few years ago when a pilot tried to abort a landing and did not clear the trees at the end of the runway. The owner has a great story about that. The runway was only 1700 feet long so there's no room for error. Some Construction worker had left his Subway in bag in the fuselage and the whole trailer was littered with litter. The birds are the only ones using this place for flying now.

Midway down what used to be a runway was an outhouse. It is now sunken into a deep hole and looks unstable.

Go soon before this place is swallowed up.

Hahaha, from a distance. The sinkhole it was sitting in looked none too stable.
