The finishing company still has a 2 large buildings in the back. Also, there is a school on the grounds that has a stage in it. Watch out for the security guard as he is not nice and neither is his dog.

Here is the rest of the picture (I cut it out just to keep it OT for towers)
I didn't know the rest of the buildings were still there... maybe I should go back. I was there in May. I went into the school (thought it was a town hall or something). I'm pretty sure the guy in the trailer called the cops, they were waiting at my car when I got back.
I wasn't exactly trying to hide- didn't think there was much left of the place that anyone would care

Are the towers still standing?

Garthamlock? Good luck! Every time I've seen it there's someone's shirt or pants hanging off the barbed wire.

Water tower p0rn thread!

I'll start out with this ...

1.

DJ Craig's Mom drove past the same water tower and snapped this shot with her iPhone. It looks as though the city has wrapped it up as a gift to UER.

You beat me too it.

Then there's Granger, IA with 2 water towers. One is marked "HOT" and the other is marked "COLD".

Me and PunkUE did a last minute climb last night. Last minute plans always seem to work out best for me...

All of my gear stayed intact and accounted for this time (that's a first?) My body is beat to hell, smashed my tailbone on a rock jumping down, climbed back up for the portrait, forgot to put gloves back on, hands are chewed up. Waiting for the massive poison ivy rashes to appear.

No previous recon done. Just parked at a nearby bar walked over. Half-assed motion sensors and clipped cameras proved little trouble for the pair of "monkeys". Left my camera battery in my jacket pocket at the base of the tower so I'll have to wait till he gets his shots up to share some of the high shots.

As promised ... some views from the top.
You can see more of his shots here

Super Rad Group Shot.

My head hurts...

p/c PunkUE
^ I was starting to get a headache (and woke up with a wicked one this past morning) from either the RF or just dehydration. Lanyarded to tower, I only use fall protection when I stop and rest or when I want to take photographs, I only want to worry about my camera falling not me...

Another scary thing I forgot to mention. My gloves are weighted with steel shot As my hands hit the last wrung of the ladder, I felt an electric current going through my hands. My hands were vibrating, and tingling all over. It happened as I went up, and happened again as I went back down. I'm not sure if it was maybe improper grounding or forced induction from the nearby cell transmitters but it was a bit alarming at first. Punk didn't have any problems, but he had simple leather/nylon gloves on where as I was wearing my Sap gloves. I think my hands were a bit more conductive than his were... I dunno, it was a bit weird.

Why would use steel-containing gloves anyway, especially around electrical and RF fields?

Builds hand-strength, more protection, gloves have the best grip of any I own, numerous reasons. Never been a problem before.
(I know the possible legal implications if a cop wants to be a dick; no ethics debates please.)

They have been my basic UE glove on all of my previous climbs; the last few cell towers were cool even climbing past the active transmitters on the long lines I posted in the radio tower thread didn't prove an issue ...

I'm not exactly sure how or why my hands got shocked, it wasn't anything worse than a household outlet. I know ULYB's camera and phone got zapped on his water tower climb. It's weird. The zap made me think twice about taking any up high shots for the same reason (and I couldn't find my battery until I realized I left it with my phone at the base of the tower).

But, if I was wearing steel toe boots I'd imagine the same would have happened.

I think that's the same place me and DroolDog tried to go to back in may, and the moment we got out of our car that old redneck came out of his trailer and yelled at us and made us leave.

Shit, I'm lovin this thread. So much sexyness. We did the same one the last two nights, however, out of fear of threatening this particular towers accessability I will not show photos online. For the most part, it's similar to the first, older-style tower shown in the OP's post. However, up top things get a little more interesting... I'll see if I can't just get a shot of said feature..

Excellent pictures everyone. Water towers are so much fun to climb, I'll be sure to climb more of them in the future!
