I have seen those tracks too SteamPunk, pretty much spent a whole day looking and following them some years back. It's nice to put it all together finally.

We should keep this one going people.

Ok, this may be too easy, not too sure. All the major buildings in this photo still exist. (Photo circa 1910):

I KNOW!!! I'll wait for others to clue in...

Here's one....Circa 1913. (if you know, hold on for a bit)

(Hint...both main buildings in the photo still stand, all others are gone, prior to construction of a big project)

Heavily edited for....er....ya, live with it.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

Aaaaaah, I have to admit that it took me a while to figure out the photographs orientation, it's an odd angle to take a picture from, especially given the changes in the area. The construction hoarding is hiding the pass-thru on the completed building, that threw me off too.

Nice find, do you happen to know the original occupants of the building under construction? Was it built as an office building?

Found it...original use was the mens quarters for the BC Electric Railway. Some little-known Vancouver history there.

That's the south end of the Burrard! The railings are the give away, as they are still concrete. Concrete evidence if you will. I also remember tracks under there, beside the brewery, and a few switches too. I had no idea what they were for till now. Nice find Nobody, thanks for that. Some more good finds for my mental railway/interurban history collection!

Good eye! Completely forgot about those tracks

Cobalt Hotel - originally the Royal George Hotel. I guess it may well have served rail passengers from the nearby station back in the day. Here's a look today:

I have drank on the roof MANY MANY times...if you get up there, you'll see my scribblings. Be careful for the alarm trigger with the vice grip/improvised switch. I love the view from there. To bad the area has a whole other level of security now. HAHA..i won a meat draw there a few years ago too.

Ha..I figured you would be familiar with that one!

It is of course, the Princeton Hotel/Pub on Powell Street. Popular with sailors and dock workers for almost a century. (Not to mention a good quality, cheap, greasy spoon breakfast available next door at the JK Grill).

How it looks today:

Ok, I've got one more - then I'll quit for a bit.

This one's a bit tougher. I will say that it is on East Hastings, and it's still standing - albeit a little more tarnished and dirty, given the clientele now residing there.

The street grade may help identify where it is. It used to be known as the Hotel Howard many many years ago...

Hmm, Orwell Hotel? Same side or opposite as the Ovaltine Cafe? If I remember right, the Ovaltine is on the north side, hotel on the south.

Anyone remember the butcher on E. Hastings that sold horse meat? If you want 50's exotic, the old hotel at the bottom of Clark, or Commercial, near there, it had the bamboo thing going on, what do they call it, very cool, retro now...

Tikki! that's it, now I r3m3mb3r. Srysly, had forgotten the name. And still can't remember the name of the hotel. Here's a photo I took around 1990. Anyone know the building?

Great thread btw.

Nope, the Orwell is way over in the 400 block East Hastings.

I think the bamboo/tiki room you speak of would be the Waldorf Hotel on Hastings near Clark.

You got it, the Waldorf. I think it was called the Polynesian Room. It may still exist, but many years ago it became available only for private functions.

Well the Waldorf itself is still quite alive and well, I just don't remember any Polynesian thing myself.....But then again I don't really remember yesterday.
